Biggest buck in texas?? - 07/28/12 04:41 AM

Who else wonders about the biggest(horn) buck in Texas?? I have always thought he is chillen in north texas along the red river. Maybe denton county. Or out west on a huge 10,000 acre ranch that is not hunted. WHO KNOWS!! He could be in east texas on a 10 acre patch of woods???(not)...Who else has thought about this?? If so, where do you think he is at??(county)

Could very easily be a record deer or two running around on the W.T Wagoner Estate or the 6666's ranch.

Re: Biggest buck in texas?? - 07/28/12 04:22 PM

I saw a matched pair of mounted sheds found from a LF buck in mid 90's. They came off a 10,000 acre+ Panhandle ranch that had not been hunted since the 30's. Those sheds grossed in the 270's and net in mid 260's with an estimated inside spread. They had found his left antler the next year and it had over 145" alone on that side. If he had ever been killed he could possibly have beaten the current state record NT.

not counting bucks hand fed with pet names the Golden Triangle gets the most Booners, but a Red River or "city" buck as largest free range wouldn't surprise me.

My bet is on dee's choice above. Either on the "Wag" or four sixes AFTER the drought is broken.

The difficulty of topping the Brady Buck is extreme.

We talking typical or non typical?

Posted By: stxranchman

Re: Biggest buck in texas?? - 07/28/12 04:56 PM

Could be anywhere in the state with management and age structure as it is these days. Just takes the right buck born at the right time and then the right age in the rainfall year to match.

Re: Biggest buck in texas?? - 07/28/12 05:13 PM

prolly at BPS or Cabela's

Re: Biggest buck in texas?? - 07/28/12 05:21 PM

Brady Buck photo above was shot at Cabela's in Allen. There may be a bigger one hiding in there somewhere...

Yeah, I know.

Guuss it depends on whether you're referring to 'real' deer or not. Hard not to guess Panhandle for free-ranging deer. But, if you're talking about high-fenced, breeder bred, protein fed, TTT'd, DMP'd, genetically altered, artificially inseminated, hand-raised, mostly tame, half-stupid, genetically-altered 'deer', could be anywhere.

Glad I'm not the only one that knows there are monster's running around those places. There was a 212" deer taken off a place next to the 6666's a few years ago very impressive to say the least.

Free range. no HF!

Re: Biggest buck in texas?? - 07/29/12 01:20 AM

The largest typical I've ever seen on the hoof was in Hemphill Co at 1 am driving to a rig down a lease road. It was just before Thanksgiving and he had his nose to the ground, started to cross the lease road and stopped about 10 yards in front of the truck. The 2-3 seconds I got to look at him, I know he had at least 20 inches on the ten I was lucky enough to take which was 160". A buddy of mine took a nontypical about 12 miles SW of where I saw this one that netted just under 200".

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see a record buck come from just outside the city limits somewhere. My uncle killed a huge buck several years ago on 80 acres that you can literally see the town from. I killed a nice 8pt there also, you just have to be careful how you hunt it.

If not imported and engineered genetics, I think the largest horn
deer I've seen were So. of Cotulla, Batesville, Encinal, Miranda
City toward Hebbronville...Now days with high fences and imported
genetics you may see some granddaddys anywhere, but they are'nt
always home grown...My buddy killed a 30 in wide inside yrs ago
just past the Cook ranch, and my old hunting Buddy, long deceased,
killed about 5 over 25 ins. on the Rafter S Ranch at Batesville
when we worked for Pet West..DD

You mean 10 years after he sets down roots. He has to kill everything in sight first and then let them grow. I bet his neighbors at his new place are going to have a fit and think rambo moved in next door rofl

Northside of Lake JB. Thomas. Borden County, along the Scurry County line.
Pin point it more so. Due North of the "Sourdough" Community.
Along the West Shore.
