What type of game meat tastes the best to you?

Lets start a discussion on what kind of game eats the best and why, also how you prefer it cooked.

axis and elk are my favorites. buffalo is good too as far as 4 legged critters go.

i'm a sucker for fried or bbq'd quail and dove, and fried frog legs are delicious.

not a much of a fan anymore on whitetail, blackbuck, fallow except for jerky or in sausage

growing up in Indiana I love venison but fell in love with elk when I moved to Colorado!

4. Everything else

Nilgai is very tasty, but I don't eat it often. All my whitetail, sika, fallow and blackbuck just go into the sausage bin, which is still ok. I've heard Eland is excellent but I've never had any.

I think Elk is the best. It just tastes best. Griiled or Pan Fried to Medium.

Caribou... But Elk is a CLOSE second!

I love me some deer meat but I have to say the Axis and Red Deer that I have was awesome!

ELK burgers, or meatloaf! TX hogs..WILD pork loin..axis..then deer.

Just about anything that's cooked long enough so that it doesn't walk off the plate.

Elk probably the best, but deer running a close second - I don't want to take away from the smoked turkey either.

Hog.

A good thick ribeye with plenty of marbling off a fat wild cow.

I agree with TT85 on the Axis & Elk being top drawer eats.

A guy at the Exxon station in Leakey that is the closet processor cold storage unit to Garner SP had a funny about eating WTails....sez he'd rather eat road kill any time ...but then he knows where the Axis cross daily!

I'd only add moose ahead of elk....outstanding!!! I hear Red Stag and mebbe nilgi is about like elk too. Last Bison I ate was overcooked at a high dollar place in Denver down by the RR Tracks ..but the buff steaks served at the 7th Cavalry place outside of Cheyenne was pretty good. Tried carabou backstrap couple times ... best served raw and seasoned with fresh ground black pepper and very cold as it gets much chewier as it warms up and with super ice cold Finlandia shooters. Properly cleaned javalina is also a treat I'll go out of my way for.

I am only going to shoot ONE more BlackBuck ...a true wall hanger trophy complete with full pelt...as that's gotta be the worst cooked red meat I ever put in my mouth!

Not fit for human consumption Black Buck. Killed an older buck that after cooking the dog would not eat it or the gravy.

Duck, prefer Teal, Wooduck, mallards
Canada Geese

Way down the list is Snow goose, only slightly better than the Blackbuck

Axis if the best I have ever had. We cooked an Axix BS and whitetail at the same time and diff was amazing. Everyone on lease now wants an Axis. One key with whitetails is age. If it is a mature buck that grind it, make suasage, or jerky. Do not waste time with roasts or steaks.

I only listed one (elk) but it was a close toss up between it and pronghorn.

Suprised no one else has put down pronghorn but you and me. I'd rather eat pronghorn than deer any day.

the first pronghorn I killed was fantastic, better than Axis, but I did kille it in an alflfa field in Montana. Next one was almost as good

I could live off chicken fried white tail back straps for the rest of my days and be a pretty happy dude.
Grilled quail and bacon wrapped dove are the shizz.
Heck I reckon I'd eat whatever was tossed in front of me without much fuss. Give me a beer to wash it down with and I'm good to go!

A YOUNG blackbuck doe is hard to beat too.

Axis meat cut bite sized, wrapped in a little bacon, grilled while drizzling butter and magic dust seasoning.

Chicken fried venison (white tail, muley, axis, all good!)

Dove prepared these two ways: Cut breast meat off the bone. Then either chicken fry the nuggets and eat with gravy, or roll the breasts in mixture of salt, pepper, and garlic powder, saute until JUST DONE in butter. M'boy!

Grilled Quail gets my vote, freshly killed and grilled

Haven't come across one I haven't liked yet but havent tried many of the ones listed here ... mainly just the usual suspects (whitetail, turkey, wild hog, quail, dove, etc ...).

I've known a few that said pronghorn was very tasty. Hope they're right going in October it looks like. Prob get a few doe tags as well.

After growing up my whole life eating dove the way my parents prepared it (baking for an hour, basting w/bbq sauce to give it back SOME moisture, aaaaalmost like eating dove jerky) I picked up those two hints on another forum. I will never eat baked dove ever again. Grilled w/bacon, onion, jalapeno's pretty good too, but hard to get everything cooked enough without overcooking the dove meat. When you cut the meat off the bone and cook it the ways I described, it's much easier to control the doneness. I cooked some for my folks rolling it in the spices and sauteing...knocked their socks off!

Grilled dove breasts covered in Woody's sauce is good to. The Woody's seemed to hold in the moisture. Key with most game and fish is not to over cook.

Whatever is underneath the gravy, and next to the mashed taters, is my favorite. I've tried numerous game species, and just don't see much difference in them. I think the age of the critter and the care taken in butchering the animal is more important than the species, and the recipe used is even more important.

I ate some Gemsbock in Africa a few years ago, and it was unbelievable. Best meat Ive ever ate
