CZ guns ???

I do not own one, YET. I have several friends that are shooting them and they are totally happy with them. I shot one of my friends in .243 and it is a tack driver! Great triggers to if you get the one that has the 'set trigger'. I think when you set it forward it takes only a couple of ounces of pull to send a round flyin'!!!

Yes Sir, you hit it on the head about the set trigger. The regular trigger pull on mine isn't that bad. I am guessing it at 3 pounds or so. Push that trigger forward till it clicks, and it is about 4 ounces. That is a great weight if you are shooting something reasonable. It is not a great weight when you are trying to snug up to a 45/70 on steroids.

Not near as bad as the Ruger Model 77 I had in that same caliber that was almost 3 pounds heavier. It is just not something a person wants to do on a regular basis. With the regular trigger pull it is fairly pleasant to shoot, no worse than my 375.

I have not heard many good things about the Huglu shotguns. From the people I have talked to that have owned them, they are just too risky of a proposition. Some of them seems to work well, but there seem to be quite a few lemons as well. CZ apparently isn't keeping a close eye on the production.

Well, I got my first kill with my CZ this weekend. Sat. afternoon, I walked down to a blind that was a little way down fropm the camp we were in. This blind was set so that you could watch 2 protein feeders. About 4:15 a doe came in to the one feeder and jumped in the feed pen. She ate for a few minutes and then jumped back out. I had got set up, bvut when she came out of the feed pen she went out of the clearing at a fast enough walk that I didn't feel comfortable trying the shot. I got ready to wait some more, but looked up and saw something moving thru the brush coming back to the feeder. Turned out to be the same doe. I still had the gun out the window and this time she stopped broadside at about 85 yards or so in some shade. I put the sight behing her left shoulder and she went down at the shot. For me it was a good shot with iron sights. Thumb sized entrance hole, 50 cent piece size exit hole, clipped the bottom half of her spine. I am plenty proud of that shot, since my eyes are not what they used to be, and the first kill for a new gun is always special.

Sounds like fun, I have been wanting to take one with an iron sight rifle for some time now, but cat by a new one, and cat bring myself to take a perfectly sighted in scope off of the gun for no reason. What caliber is the new gun, just curiosus, sounds like you had some good performance out of it?

You know my preferences, it is a CZ 550 Safari Magnum in 458 Win.Mag., I am using 350 grain Hornady Round Nose bullets, and have them loaded at what would be the upper end of 45/70 loadings for a Marlin Model 95 45/70. Recoil is no worse than my 375 and meat destruction is minmal.

Now, before anyone jumps on this about hunting whitetails with elephant guns, the performance I got on that doe was no better than what Lora did on her first doe Sat. morning. Her doe was at about 120 to 125 yards out and she hit it in almost the same spot as I did mine, and hers went down just as fast and she was using her 257 Roberts. I am just facinated with the larger calibers and prefer using them.

It has nothing to do with the size of the caliber, it is proper bullet placement that counts, I just like shooting the larger calibers and they do give an edge if that bullet hits a couple of inches off of proper. JMO

It really is neat to shoot a deer with an iron sighted gun.

Sounds like it did a great job, I have been thinking about getting a new(bigger gun)but didnt know if I could still shoot it at whitetales. From what you have said I think I could probably do it just fine.

And yes gettin one iron sight is a blast, but the only way I have done it is with a smoke pole.
