TV Dinners - 03/01/24 08:52 PM

Been many many years since my last one. Are they any good? About the same?

What is a good one?

Better than the 70's Swanson.

Check the sodium content on the box and you will likely change your mind about eating one.

They've also got preservatives and other chemicals that are horrible for you. Many are loaded with saturated fat and ultra processed garbage, too.

Maybe there is something out there that's not bad for you, but as for my family, no thanks.

When I was younger it was a quick meal. Not any more.

Re: TV Dinners - 03/01/24 10:34 PM

My mom bought them all the time when I was growing up. Patio was my favorite until I moved out after high school. Then I could afford the Nigh Hawk TV Dinners. Haven`t eaten one in over 40 years though.

Good stuff, but not fast. 30 minutes in the oven.

Re: TV Dinners - 03/01/24 10:44 PM

I couldn't remember the last time I had one. I used to like the frozen tv dinner macnchz. Cant recall the brand.

The super spicy ramen in a bowl is a guilty pleasure every once in a while. Crack an egg in there and it will do. Fresh green onion is a plus as well.

Re: TV Dinners - 03/02/24 12:02 AM

I liked the Marie Callenders until I read the label: 110 percent of the daily saturated fat guideline and 56 percent of the sodium. Man, TV dinners were a big treat when I was a kid in the 1950s. Put on my jammies with "feets" and had one all to myself on my own TV tray, watching the little GE black and white with all the tubes. I know -- prehistoric ...

Re: TV Dinners - 03/02/24 01:00 AM

I dont ever remember eating them growing up but maybe we did. We would eat a few as a young married couple. I keep a couple as emergency backups at the deer lease. Ive never had a decent tasting one.

I use a TV tray everyday. We have a set of four. I keep one open beside my recliner and use it for snacking and to put my coffee cup on. They come in handy!

I probably made it sound like they weren't any good, but back then I guess they weren't too bad. My mother worked a lot as a court reporter so I saw many TV dinners.

Never did like those, I think those came later after the Swanson 70's run. My son made this chicken pot pie soup last night (pic below), it was delicious and reminded my of the swanson chicken pot pies, loved those things..

HEB makes some fresh heat and eat meals that are pretty decent if you're in a hurry. Other than frozen lasagna, I haven't bought anything even close to a TV dinner in years.

Agree not healthy but best ones I ever tried were from them and their pot pies are good but do not read the label.

I ate Patio then changed to El Charrito when they came out. They were very good to a young teen who loved Mexican food but had an English mother.
