What's my new business name gonna be?

Cross posted from TFF, thought I'd see if I get some good ideas here.

So I'm doing something that's either really smart or really stupid . . . I'm applying for my 07 FFL. Will also get 02 SOT with it so that I can broker machine gun sales etc. I keep running into situations where someone - an estate planning client, a probate decedent, etc - has a registered machine gun and needs help with the transfer, or sometimes there's regular firearms in the estate that the executor needs stored and/or disposed of. Got it through my head that means I could handle other firearms sales, transactions, and so on - like being a receiving FFL for those local to me (no, I'm not gonna do any jiggery-pokery deals).

So I formed the LLC and trying to decide on an appropriate assumed name for the business. "Uncle Zeeks Armory" has a nice ring to it, but I'm all ears for better ideas.

What's the OT got for this?

Are you going to specialize or concentrate on Firearms? If not, I wouldn’t let potential clients think that you were a gun specialist. It might cost you other clients.

I don’t know enough to make a judgement call. But, if I was liquidating my mothers estate, I would look elsewhere.

Also considering the recent bank problems ChadTRG4 posted about and KRoyal too, it might be in your best interest not to have anything gun related in your business name or DBA to make it easier to fly under the banking radars. Banks seem to constantly be changing on what each will allow.

Yeah, that's something I've given a bit of thought to. The LLC name is pretty bland. I suppose the dba could be something plain as well "UZ Outdoors" or something like that.




I already do have a focus on firearms, such as drafting NFA trusts, and am handling a couple of ATF matters at the moment. I routinely include a firearms section in most ordinary revocable trusts that I draft (for clients who own firearms). So the FFL should dovetail nicely with my practice.

But what most clients see and notice in my office is the coin displays. Those are interesting and inoffensive even to liberal clients.

Zeek I am asking for a friend. What if you have unregistered machine guns or if you inherited them and don’t know if they were registered?
