I think that’s the one where the liberal DA blamed the officers for not deescalating because he was having a “mental health crisis” when he was running around with a knife acting crazy at an apartment complex. I guess when he wouldn’t put the knife down they should have just cleared the call and headed to 7-11 for some Slurpees.

If he had been a gay Muslim too it would have been a mass shooting.

That DA is as bad as the Dallas DA in her office overwhelming desire to prosecute police officers.

My friend that works for Williamson CO SO is under indictment for a police chase that ended up in Travis Co because that’s where the chase ended and he tazed the suspect, resulting in the suspects death. Never mind the fact the suspect consumed a large amount of cocaine and had a heart attack.

There is always one common denominator in cases like this. democrats, every single time. Prosecute the popo. A literal cancer of our society.

Unless it's a NG, the liberal DA can bite at that apple forever. The Officer doesn't have unlimited money for his defense. CLEAT, TMPA ect ect doesn't typically cover criminal charges.

Re: Good news on Austin LEO trial! - 11/15/23 01:26 AM

Sounds like the are covering him. As they should.
Dues about to go up 6 bucks a month.

Y’all like CLEAT or TMPA?

Re: Good news on Austin LEO trial! - 11/15/23 02:36 AM

Im not that familiar with both of them. Cleat seems a little better to me. That’s from dealing with both attorneys, cleat seemed better.

I have had CLEAT for over 23 yrs. They like to show their azzz and "what they have done for LEOs at the State level", imo The attorneys they have in our area are quite bad. In the time I have been with them they had one good attorney from a neighboring City. The others are sub par but I guess if you need one in a [censored] storm they might be better then nothing?
I have been to PSU on several occasions and can honestly say I never used them even though I pay my dues to them. I have found if I tell them I effed up and up front about it, one can survive. Once you go down the spiral of lies you will get caught up in a bigger mess.

Re: Good news on Austin LEO trial! - 11/15/23 03:13 AM

CLEAT is what almost all of us had and they had great success. Just because they did a press release saying they stand behind him doesn’t mean they are representing him for just the price of his membership. They can but typically don’t do criminal without a lot more money than the dues.

Re: Good news on Austin LEO trial! - 11/15/23 03:29 AM

I could not imagine belonging to an association that wouldn’t represent me when I shoot someone at work and on duty. To me, that’s the entire reason of being a member.

Their website says you are covered.

They have changed their policy on covering. They previously just represented to include the grand jury but not after that if things went wrong. It was like that in 1995 when I joined and was like that until recently apparently.

TMPA is better, but that’s just based on an outsider looking in

Re: Good news on Austin LEO trial! - 11/15/23 06:28 AM

Terry Porter with CLEAT took care of my team on a grand jury but realistically, there’s not much the defense can do in that situation. I have also seen some of their attorneys give horrible advice in my opinion. It’s more about the individual attorney than their organization.

I have TMPA now but haven't had to make use of their services. Many years ago I had CLEAT and they were extremely effective in handling an issue my department generated.

Makes no sense for attorney to come to scene, if they won’t represent you if things go wrong in the public eye.

Perfectly acceptable for a guy to kill someone and get 30 years Even though he has 25 felony arrests, convicted felon with a stolen gun. 100k dollar bond.
Happens everyday.

They want the guy who never has been arrested under the jail. No bond.

Originally they made sure you didn’t get fired, wrongly demoted, fight at civil service appeals ect ect. At the time, every liberal wasn’t trying to send officers to prison either.

That should tell the prosecution, a conviction will be unlikely.

I doubt they try it again, with that margin. Something tells me they probably will, ignore all the other criminals in that county and direct all resources to this.

Any reasonable DA wouldn’t do that again with those numbers but I bet this one will.

His two lawyers were interviewed after the trial by Austin TV stations. They were awesome. They called out the DA while also giving a great description of what it takes to be an LEO (especially in a town like Austin) -

"Maniac has responded with a scornful remark". "Approach, and repeat ultimatum in an even firmer tone of voice. Add the words, "or else".

In Austin and a lot of other metro area’s in Texas is seeing officers hang it up because of the crap going on. I know a couple of APD officers who resigned in the last 5 years. It had been bad for a while especially with Acevedo who was just spring boarding to bigger jobs.
