Eovaldi starting tomorrow night.

Scherzer has a cut on his pitching thumb. Says it will hurt but not affect his pitching. Yeah, right bolt

I got to go the last time the Rangers were in the WS with the same friend before my son was born. Tough for me to stomach sitting in $10K+ seats, but he said he's not selling them if I go or not. Was an awesome experience last time, but everyone stood the entire game. Not sure my son will get to see much of the game.

Re: Official World Series Thread - 10/26/23 06:50 PM

Anyone hear what thinking was on Eovaldi vs Montgomery for game one?
Montgomery pitched too much Mon night?
A certain matchup favored him?
Bochy just thinks he’s better?
Better equipped to come back later in series?

I will likely watch the first couple innings on my phone until my kid gets done with halftime show then radio on the way home just in time to watch the 8th and 9th innings.

Re: Official World Series Thread - 10/27/23 01:09 PM

I was feeling really good but the closer to the game we get I am second guessing myself. They have 3 bullpen arms that have almost been perfect all post season. Rangers got to get to the starters early because runs may be hard to come by in later innings. Our bullpen...well...not perfect. Im afraid it may come down to the bullpens and we certainly do not have the advantage.

every ump assigned to the world series is horrible. they are all ranked in the bottom 1/3 of umps on accuracy. I will say the inaccuracy is going both ways.

Arizona’s pitching has been great tonight. They’ve got a few more calls than we have, but that’s part of it. Overall they have done a fantastic job pitching. And their offense gets the ducks off the pond… lots of 2 out damage to the Rangers.

Re: Official World Series Thread - 10/29/23 11:47 AM

I picked Texas in 6. I change my mind. Pitching wins and we don't have any. They put so much pressure on the base pads. They basically beat our two best pitchers. We got lucky in game 1. I think Arizona wins in 6, maybe even 5.
Posted By: GasGuzzler

Re: Official World Series Thread - 10/29/23 12:03 PM

Rangers have fine pitching and it's how they made it this far overall. It's only the FIRST lop-sided loss for them in the post season. The plate umpire was not very good at all but he was so for both teams. The difference was the Diamondback hitters swung at balls that were going to be called strikes. The Rangers did not. Arizona adapted. Texas did not.

I hope everyone knows the box on the TV DOES NOT define the strike zone. The umpire does. The plate is the width and the height is suggested in the rule book. Officials see and call them their way. People do not understand rules of the runner's baseline either so it's no big deal.

Caught me. I actually wrote "second" until I looked at the scores and missed that one. So my correction to my own post was incorrect. Still, hard to say the Rangers pitching is at fault with a 10-4 post season record ... two close losses and two blow outs and TEN wins.

Caught me. I actually wrote "second" until I looked at the scores and missed that one. So my correction to my own post was incorrect. Still, hard to say the Rangers pitching is at fault with a 10-4 post season record ... two close losses and two blow outs and TEN wins.

When the Rangers don’t hit they don’t hit. They go to the plate trying to be a hero instead of the next man up

Probably has a lot to do with the opposing pitcher wouldn't you think?

In some nebulous way, yes. But in a real and practical way ... no. Astros had "better pitching" and a "better bullpen" too and they are sitting at home. When the Rangers hit, they win and their pitching is good enough to beat another midget (X2) team with a REALLY old guy.

If the opposing teams pitcher is on his game as a hitter you can expect probably one pitch per at bat that you can really handle. You better not miss it, foul it, etc, therefore hitting suffers tremendously. Just the way the game works. Whoever has the best pitching that particular day/series wins.

This is good info from someone with the experience to know.

Merrill Kelly pitched 7 great innings and for the most part had the Rangers completely off balance at the plate. IMO the lack of offense by the Rangers was just as much about Kelly having great stuff and hitting his spots than the Rangers just not showing up..

Tonights winner may determine the Champion, just read where the winner of Game 3, when the the series is tied 1-1, in a 7 game world series wins it all 68% of the time. Thats a huge percentage. One thing is for sure, if Semien and the bottom half don't get going they don't stand a chance.

100% of the teams who win game 7 win it all! I think the Rangers proved that in the ACLS when down by 3 games.

I guess to me and many others, it kinda all goes back to how we were taught sportsmanship growing up playing baseball. If you slow walked, slammed or threw your bat, slammed or threw your helmet in the dugout, couldn't take a hit and started a brawl, coach would bench your azz IF you didn't get thrown out by the ump.. Period. Didn't matter who you were.

Obviously not that way today, but whatever. I don't hate Garcia (like some hate Altuve because of his looks or he's really good). I just don't like his attitude. Garcia is carrying this team and emotions are high, I get it. I don't wish harm on him and I want the Rangers to win. It's that simple.

Re: Official World Series Thread - 11/01/23 01:32 PM

Wow, what a win. I had originally picked Texas in 6, then after game 2 changed to D Backs in 5 or 6, but this team keeps finding ways to win. Jankowski stepped up big time. He is patient at the plate and gave us some offense. Garcia was 0-8 since the game winner home run and will go on hitless streaks, so maybe it was a blessing in disguise Garcia was out. Seemed like everyone else knew it was time to step up with him out. But, they did that when he got hurt during the regular season too. Lets win one more and my life long misery as a Rangers fan can finally end!

I get this feeling too. Watching the D Bags score 7 runs very easily last night as a statement they ain't rolling over. They are a lot like the Rangers. Very tenacious and resilient. I hope the Rangers close it out tonight but won't be surprised if they have to bring it back home.

Great pitchers duel tonight. Eovaldi pitched his guts out. 5 scoreless is most likely it for Eovaldi. The Ranger bats need to find a way to get to Gallen. He is dealing.

Make that six scoreless for Eovaldi. Seager broke up the no hitter and Carter looks like the real deal. Rangers on the board. 1-0

Changing of the guard in the AL West. Rangers World Champions!!! Bochy did a heck of a job managing the team through a slew of injuries! Bringing up the rookie Carter made an impact. Seager showed why he makes the big bucks.’ I’m an Astros fan but started pulling for the Rangers when they called BS on gay pride night in their stadium. Only team in MLB that had the stones to say we are not doing that mess in their ball park.

They are my team, I pull for all the DFW teams but the Rangers have been my main team

I remember an uncle and I talking in 1995 vs the Yankees when John Burkett won, we thought then we had a team that could win it LOL….

But finally, they are the CHAMPS!!!

It was not a grind ... we are fans. They weren't supposed to be ready to win for another year or two. Funny how this didn't seem to be a better team than the mid-90's teams or the 2010/2011 team but this team pulled it off.

This team has the horsepower to be relevant for the next 3-5 years with Seager and Semien under contract control. They need to get stuff going with Lowe, Garcia and Heim contract wise as I believe those 3 become player contract controlling in 2025 after 4 full seasons of MLB. They keep those 3 and re-up Eovaldi, Heaney, Montgomery and Sborz, skies the limit. Believe they locked in LeClerc before 2022 to either 3 or 5 years.

All I can say is WOW! I have been a Rangers fan my whole life because my Grandfather was. Nolan Ryan was my hero and a to this day I remember him and my mom taking me to see Nolan pitch against the As at the old Arlington Stadium. I remember thinking how cool that place was to only now realize it was a dump and wouldn't even make a good minor league park. I honestly thought I would never see this but its pretty cool. I sent out a message to my staff and students to wear Rangers gear and they showed out today! Got my 2011 Rangers WS hat and Michael Young Jersey on today!

A fan since they played at the old Arlington Stadium. I was in High School. Some of my buddies worked out there. If you never sat out there in that sun on those hard azz bleachers you missed something special.
Anyone remember ten cent beer night?

Lot of ups and downs, mostly downs. So close in 2011.

Victory for my Texas Rangers at last.
How sweet it is.

Almost 50 years waiting for this day. Used to go to Arlington sradium. Still have some of the give aways. I remember Lone Star beer in waxed cardboard cartons like milk cartons. It was always hot. Hots dogs and popcorn were favorites.

My son and I toured the new old stadium before it was opened. We stood at home plate together.

Happy I was around to see it.

Perez is good insurance. Keep all the pitching you can. Hard to believe we accomplished this WITHOUT Degrom and an ineffective injured Mad Max. Next several years the Rangers have the makings of a dynasty. Bochy has a chance to add a couple more rings IMO. texas

I think they have Garcia for two more years but Id have to check. Eovaldi is good for next year, Heaney is on a player option for next year, Montgomery is a FA as of Monday and will demand a huge contract that the Yankees will overpay for. Scherzer will be back but it looks like at his age staying on the field may be an issue. I read that they are now a possible front runner for Ohtani, which I don't think is a good idea, he won't be able to pitch for another year and thats a contract that will limit your ability to sign other players, but he would put rears in the seats. deGrom should be back around August, Id start him in the bullpen but that won't happen. They have some young pitchers in the farm systen that have real potential as does this kid from Florida, who may push Taveras to be trade bait. Overall they have a great core and should be competitive for a few years.

Can’t forget about Jack Leiter from Vanderbilt. I believe he is still in our system and should be a great pitcher for us as well moving forward.
