Anyone have a chainsaw guy?

Have an old homelite EZ and McCulloch that need some work.

In Dallas but will to drive an hour in any direction.

Travel to Texarkana every month or so too.

1.Find your nearest dumpster, and throw both of them in it.

2. Get online and research the right Stihl chainsaw for you.

3. Go to your local Stihl dealer and buy the saw you researched. Also get a gallon of Stihl bar oil, and a 6 pack of 1 gallon mix two cycle oil.

4. Buy ethanol free gasoline from the nearest supplier and mix your Stihl two cycle oil in it.

5. Enjoy your good chain saw.

Good advice. Labor is to high to spend on an old chainsaw.

Depending on which models..... they might be 'collectible' and worth repairing (if possible).

First thing to do is to pull the muffler, use a flashlight to see if there is any significant cylinder scoring. If not....then you can proceed with further inspection.

Some older (desirable models) have value as 'parts' saws if nothing else.

Echo makes the lightest gas chainsaw in the world; with that said go buy the best you can.

Stihl MS 193T Arborist saw. You can use it one handed, since the handle is above the motor, instead of behind it like a regular chainsaw.

I have that, and a hoss, of a MS 362 with a 20" bar.

On my land, the 193T sees work 10:1 of the big saw.

I've cut down 1/2" to 12" trees with it. It is on its' second carbeurator. And the bar has most of the paint worn off. A whole lot of saw in a compact package.

I’d suggest the Stihl MS 180C, but the arborist saw is what I see in the hand of a pro tree removal guy. If he uses it, it must be worth having.. That said, I really got a lot of use from my MS180 C before I squished it with my tractor.

I've got a 180c, and I treat it like a big saw. It'll run circles around my echo 450, and unlike the echo, starts and runs every time.

Probably because you do not screw around when you break something or get something stuck.

Admittedly, I was disappointed at the size of the splinter when it came out.

Thought I had something more substantial.

A proper roasting was in order.

Guys had some great ideas for getting them out though.

Let’s hope you don’t try handling any mesquite with your new chainsaw dreams.. they have thorns ya know!

I had about a 15 year old Craftsman bought brand new from Sears, started having issues with it and last year it died, gave it away on the forum.
I called a couple of small engine mechanics and they were $65.00 and up to tune it if that is the only thing it needed.

Wife was a great Santa and bought me a new Stihl.

Since I will not use mine very much I bought the gallon of Stihl pre mixed gas and bar oil. If you buy either the gallon of Stihl gas or their 2 cycle oil to mix you own gas, it doubles your warranty to two years.

I buy the premix gas if and when I’m going to store the equipment for a time. Otherwise I just use regular gas and the 2 cycle oil. Been doing it that way for years.

Stub’s new Farm Boss looks good. All shiny and nice. Mine is a touch more grubby than that, but it is maybe 20 years old, and still a wood eating monster.

Like most everybody, I am a firm believer in buying a good chainsaw or three. I bought a new Poulan some years ago, and I used it long and hard, it being a lot lighter than the Farm Boss. It worked fine for a few years and then didn’t run so fine. I had to replace parts (Craftsman parts fit). Finally gave it away. I’ve had the Farm Boss prior to the Poulan and many years after, and it has needed only a new fuel line and air filter.

Unclebubba’s fondness for the MS180C is well placed. Like him, I ran my 180C like it was a big saw.

They are a stihl dealer so Big PIg they should be able to work on your saw. Just down the road from the station.

Empty all fluids. Hang them on the wall for decoration. Buy a Stihl.

The saws are designed to run just so many hours, about 80 I was told.
I’ll never buy the cheap saws again.
