Best Live Band Concert You've Been To

Best Live Band Concert You've Been To - 06/06/21 01:46 PM

For me, Collective Soul. The band is tight, Ed Roland's vocals impeccable and the stories growing up the son of a GA preacher and how that influenced his and his brother's music insightful.

Foreigner is 1B for me.

I went to see Rogers Waters after he left Pink Floyd, I wasn't a big Floyd fan but it was at Reunion Arena in Dallas, it was about half empty and they moved all the crowd down to the lower level, He did the Wall it was outhanding concert.

I saw Rolling Stones at the Cotton Bowl wasn't a big fan either, but they were outstanding as well.

Saw Hank Williams Jr at Six Flags over Texas, he kicked all the band off the stage and went solo for one hour.

Robert Plant on his solo tours was pure greatness, Page/Plant was great as well

Ozzy Osbourne "Shot in the Dark tour' in Fort Worth was on point

I saw Brooks and Dunn in Dallas, they put on great concert

Van Halen with Sammy at the Texxas Jams were great

Probably the best concert ever was Sammy Hagar live before he joined Van Halen

Triumph at the Texxas Jams were on point

They are all great concerts, and hard to rank as best ever any one of them.

The Day of Rock and Roll at the Super Dome in New Orleans in the late 70's. Foreigner, Chip Trick, Christopher Cross and the Eagles, all on the same day.

IMO, The Eagles are one of those very bands that sound better live than they do recorded.

Def Leppard and Heart in one show

Best concert ever but honestly couldn’t say who was better. Def Leppard sounded absolutely fantastic

But Heart killed it. Ann Wilson can sing like no other

Stevie ray Vaughn, the fabulous thunderbirds and the who at the cotton bowl. Easily the best ever!
Pink Floyd at reunion and Texas stadium
Rush at reunion.
Triumph at reunion.

Pat Green’s free show July 4th in Flower Mound wasn’t bad

AC/DC in Fort Worth for the "Who Made Who Tour" was great, and I got to see in their last concert in Dallas which they were still rocking, just not quite as hard

Tie between Boston - Don't Look Back and Van Halen - Diver Down. I did get laid after a Louisiana Le Roux concert, so that ranks up there too. smile

I hope I get a chance to see an AC/DC concert.

Two, for me.

The James Gang and The Guess Who at Moody Coliseum in about ‘76.

And Elton John and Steely Dan in the Cotton Bowl in 1973....Yellow Brick Road had just come out....it was quite a show!

Genesis or The Police pop

Van Halen or ACDC rock

ZZ Top or Black Crowes blues rock

Neil Young or Fleetwood Mac classic rock

Willie or Waylon country

They've all been pretty good, the only one that sucked was U2

I’ve heard others bands interviewed and they said you do not want to perform after Sevendust because there is no way to compare to their live show.

Good taste in music BTW.

The other concert questions were easy for me. This one is very difficult.
Overall, I can narrow it down to KISS (79), Van Halen (81), and AC/DC (81 & 09). In that order but so close it probably doesn't matter.

Funny, I was not a fan of either, but a group of co-workers were at a conference in Tampa and decided to go see Prince, backed up by Sly and The Family Stone. It was easily one of the most memorable concerts i had ever seen, just for the showmanship.

Already mentioned Bob Seger in other thread, but will add Roger Waters The Wall about 8 years ago. The visuals were amazing.

Re: Best Live Band Concert You've Been To - 06/06/21 06:06 PM

Bad Company playing the Straight Shooter album with Ted Nugent as the lead band was pretty good. REO, Rush, Robin Trower, Little Feat and others put on good shows.

Hal Ketchum in front of a small group was special. Marty Stuart, yes, Marty Stuart, was real nice as where Pam Tillis, the Oakridge Boys and more.

Best two shows though were at the rodeo. Alan Jackson was the entertainment and when we saw George roping, we knew what was gonna happen. During the performance, he jumped over the railing and two of them sang recently released Murder on Music Row. The second was when Alan Jackson got sick and they rushed in Clay Walker who sang to that full arena with only a guitar as accompaniment.

Re: Best Live Band Concert You've Been To - 06/06/21 09:42 PM

The top 4 for me would be
Skid Row when they opened for Bon Jovi. Absolutely blew the doors off of Jovi and I liked them so much I went and bought their CD the next day.
Billy Joel at a concert in Houston just before Christmas one year. He did his regular set plus about 30 minutes of Christmas songs.
Lionel Ritchie at the rodeo. I wasn’t expecting a lot, but he put on one heck of a show.
Rod Stewart at a show in Atlanta around 90/91. He canceled the show earlier in the year because he was sick. So when he came back at the end of the tour, he probably added 45 minutes to the end of the show to make up for it. At the end, he was up there with sheet music in his hands because he didn’t remember the words to all the extra songs they were playing and hadn’t done in 20 years. The guy can also kick a soccer ball a mile and probably launched 20 soccer balls from the stage to the general seating area in the grass.

While stationed out of Norfolk, heard that The Outlaws were playing in VA Beach.
They set up in a smallish club , probably held about 200-300 people, with those huge Marshall amps across one wall and put on one helluva show!
I couldn’t hear sh** for it seems like a week.

Chris Ledoux. Saw him 5 times and he never disappointed. GOD BLESS CHRIS LEDOUX!

Black Crowes got shut down at the astro hall for fighting, said they'd be back for a free concert after the tour. They booked the Sam Houston Coliseum, which was a dump by that time, and played one of the best shows I've seen

Chris Stapleton , Durant OK didn't know at the time how well he can play guitar.

Eagles , Hell freezes over tour in Bossier City, They did some Eagles songs , Some Don Henley songs , then
Joe Walsh stole the show, He started playing " Life's been good " and the crowd went wild.

Years ago I saw a show in the round in Denver that had Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton performing together and they also had the Oak Ridge Boys and the Righteous Brothers on the ticket. I had seats 3 rows from the stage. That one was a good one.

But the absolute best was probably the original line up of Lynyrd Skynyrd in the Free Bird Tour. They played Mile High Stadium and I was 13 at the time. Less than 2 years later they had the plane crash. Those performing as Lynyrd Skynyrd today don't even compare to the original line up.

Re: Best Live Band Concert You've Been To - 06/08/21 03:12 AM

Nirvana 93 - that was incredible to see them live! I got punched in the face as I tried to grab a pick from Kurt’s mic stand that a roadie threw out in the crowd as the band finished the show, and Dave Grohl saw it go down. Security guards pulled me and the full grown man that punched me backstage. I got the pic, somehow, and He wanted it! They arrested him and Kurt and Dave came over to check on me. Kurt gave me the pic he played the entire show with and Dave got me a bunch of tour gear. Was the best punch I’ve ever taken! Lol!

Pink Floyd 94 at Rice (got rained on and the show ended early, but was incredible while it lasted)

Eagles at ACL Fest

Pantera in 94 or 95 (my band HollowPoint got to meet em before hand and they jammed our demo and gave us a shout out on stage - for a teenager, that was golden!)

Michael Franti and Spearhead. Hard to pick which show. They are all incredible. Highly suggest seeing them. It’s an experience and will lift your spirits for weeks. He’s invited me on a stage a few times. Absolutely love his energy.

Faith No More about 5 years back was outstanding

Foo Fighters are incredible live!!

Rage Against The Machine and Tool - Lollapalooza - wow.

Kings of Leon about 5-6 years back at the Cynthia Woods Mitchel Pavilion

Midnight Oil in 2002 in NYC - was there as their guests and the dudes are so cool. My buddy Harvey Arden was a National Geographic author, had written a book called DreamKeepers about Aboriginals from Australia and they were big fans. Arranged a meet up and they put on an amazing show and were just great guys to talk with.

Incubus in 2002 - Hartford CT one of the tightest performances, ever.

Willy - around 96 in Houston.

Polyphonic Spree circa 96 Christmas show in Dallas. Reunion tour a handful of years back for Tripping Daisy was equally as cool.

Dandy Warhols 2004ish - Engine Room, Houston.

I will likely remember more, but these were Epic!
