You need to use a modified water sprinkler valve, it gets a faster release of the air. It will then use less air to launch.
We considered lots of different valves, settling on our choice for low cost, simplicity, and less chance of problems in the environment. The design goal was 150 yards from 100 PSI and we attained it. No doubt our valve choice is the source of some inefficiency.
I've always laughed at guys on the beach with these as I'm an avid surf caster with 12+ ounces of bait, but this video was done well. How far will these launch a bait I wonder?
If you’d a watched the video, he told you how far.
I watched and obviously missed that part. Thanks
He said about 150 yards.
I'm wondering how you keep your reel from backlashing like hell
We don't have the bait pulling line from the reel during launch. One of the anglers walks 75 yards down the beach and holds the line lightly between two fingers. The reel has the drag set lightly, but the clicker is on and the drag slows the line to a stop as the bait reaches 150 yards. This allows both using a level wind reel AND much heavier line than we could use launching that far from a spinning reel.
