Granbury tx - 05/09/21 07:18 PM

My wife and I are looking to move and found a house in Granbury that we really like. I’m not too familiar with the area. Have any of you been there live there or done anything else there? Looking for opinions good and bad. I work at Dallas love field but will only have to go to the office once a week so I’m not too concerned about the drive.

Get a house on the east side, most new stores and such are opening on that side. Going through town is hell. Great little town with a very active downtown area and is growing like crazy, lots of good restaurants, bars and various entertainment.

Nice area, but the traffic...the idiot who designed the traffic flow on 377 should be drug out to the middle of the town square, stripped and caned.

He's referring to Granbury itself, not the commute.

Re: Granbury tx - 05/09/21 10:20 PM

Traffic does suck, but have no fear - TXDOT is on the case! roflmao

It's still a better place to live than a lot of the alternatives. One thing to be aware of is if the house you're looking at is outside the city limits but with city water, you'll likely get hammered with 1.5 times the standard city water rates. If you work in Dallas, you'll be fine with the traffic here. Between Granbury and an easy drive to Weatherford, you'll find most of what you need without having to go into Fort Worth.

Feel free to PM me with any questions you may have.

If you like Bass Fishing Squaw Creek is off the charts in the winter time, You can easy put 100 in the boat during the winter months.

No, he'll be in it every day unless he's a homebound hermit the other 6 days a week. There's never a good time to travel 377 through Granbury.

Between midnight and 6am is a breeze, makes you realize how long it takes during regular hours. The Cresson bypass will be complete in a couple of years so that'll help. Thankfully we have the Chisolm Trail toll road to get to FW.

Talked to a guy the other day who is a pretty savvy real estate investor. He told me that Granbury is going to be the new Plano. I hate to hear that.

Re: Granbury tx - 05/10/21 01:51 PM

I live 30 mile south of Granbury , but usually go there 3-4 times per month. If you find a house you like you better suck it up. The inventory for homes for sale is low compared for what is has been in the past. You might contact Couto Homes or Al Couto for a new home. They both are great home builders. They build custom and spec homes and I know they have existing inventory. They built mine and our sons homes both in Stephenville and did a great job.

LOL. I heard nearly that exact same quote at a Chamber of Commerce meeting in Cleburne with my grandfather when he was President. The quote was "...when the new highway gets built to Fort Worth, Cleburne will be the Plano of the South"

This was about the time when black-tar heroin was rampant in Plano and all over the news (channels 4, 5, 8 or 11) and the butt of jokes. I thought, "why would we ever want big city trouble in our small quiet town?"

The Gulch reference was in my wheelhouse - thanks for the memories!

Re: Granbury tx - 05/10/21 07:55 PM

LOL thanks for all the feedback. As for traffic, I would commute once a week but would get out and about through the week (but not much). We found a great house north of where the HEB is but the house went under contract only after 1 day on the market. I bid 35k over asking and I guess that still was not good enough. Real estate market is crazy.

Re: Granbury tx - 05/10/21 08:21 PM

We bought a house here north of HEB 3 years ago, move from West Texas. We love it and would never move back. Traffic is kinda crazy but it sure is in West Texas too lol.

Yes it is. I talked to a guy at work, today, that lives in Granbury. He bought a home there two and a half years ago and sold it recently for a six figure profit.

Re: Granbury tx - 05/11/21 12:50 AM

We used to love going to The Gulch. We would all pile into a buddy's mom's suburban and make a day out of it and the army surplus store. I was shocked when I went through town a couple of years ago and did not recognize most of it! It's amazing how much it's changed. They do have a Braums, so that is worth quite a bit to me.

COVID is over with

It should be open soon again, and it will be off the charts again. Especially when it first opens up.

We were fishing it last winter and sticking 100 bass per day many on topwater, Good times.
