Our World With No Internet: What Would Happen?

Back to 1995 or so instantly.........

A lot less paranoia

A world without GPS would be an equal if not greater challenge.

I know some small businesses that would appreciate it.

I have thought about that when back in high school there was no Facebook no Twitter “which I’ve never been on” it seemed to be a lot simpler

Maybe not all of it but some would be a good thing.

No phones or electricity.

Just imagine.

I know some small businesses that would NOT appreciate it...mine!! Although, yes, I could adjust to life without the internet again if I had to, I pretty much depend on the internet.

...and there would be no more Hump day.

i went dark for 3-4 months a few years ago, nothing but a radio and utilities, not even a phone. it was tough the first week but after that, i found it to be extremely peaceful. no stress, no news, no phone ringing all hours of the day. got some work done around the house. drove mom and dad crazy, kids were mad, lol, it was great, till my young'un came home from college

People would go through withdraws...jones'en like a meth head!

Then Playboy the magazine would be popular again

There would also be a lot less “experts” that hide behind their online persona.

No more social media,Facebook,Twitter,etc. Social media has empowered women and homosexuals. That fact is changing the course of history. Whether for better or worse is an argument unto itself.

I'd be out of a job for sure. But, more time to watch gladiator movies on my portable DVD player. Go Spartacus!

I'd venture to say it would be absolute chaos in the world. Social media disappearing would not be the issue, it's that so many aspects of life are tied to the internet now. Business, emergency services, travel, it would cause the world to shut down for awhile.

I don't see how we would be able to process all the paperwork.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a big outage soon.

My fishing holes wouldn't get hammered as much by the keyboard scouters.

Too important to business and commerce unless it’s some deliberate cyber attack. I don’t mean just online business but business in general.

On another note remember “Please allow 4 to 6 weeks for delivery”. That would be fun to go back to.

People would be writing checks again.

Most living on the east coast experienced a major outage yesterday. Today some are finding it hard to use their favorite trading apps or social platforms...

I know what you are getting at, but maybe we should clarify this as no more "modern" Internet. There was plenty of Internet in 1995 and many people got to it through AOL or MindServe or other dial-up connections. My first online experiences were in the mid 80's through BBS's and things like Gopher, finger, email, list servers ... have been around since the late 60's / early 70's.

My first thought is that there would be a run on the local gas stations as people bought maps and road atlas's.

We did fine with maps for several hundred years. I will say I don't miss that 3-4" D/FW map book you used to have to keep in your car.

Yes, the damn MAPSCO book... they were expensive too I recall.

I remember back when it was assumed that the reason why so many stupid people existed was due to lack of access to information. I think modern times have proven that is simply not the case.

Wouldn't like it. I depend on it for business, would most likely go out of business.

LOL,I drove a cab in Fort Worth in the early 80's and the cab co wouldn't even hire you if you hadn't bought a MAPSCO.

To this day I can find a location faster with a MAPSCO than I can with the map feature on my MCT.

just think, only a year ago all this was conspiracy theory...

Life was simpler and less aggravating when I didn't have internet or a cell phone.

MAPSCO's and maps in general would still be around were it not for the fact that tons of new streets are added daily,subdivisions being built,etc.and the maps have to be constantly updated. They served their purpose well in their day. My glove box was stuffed full of them.LOL

Everyone would have a Rand Mcnally Atlas across their lap instead of their phone when driving
