Re: Something died - 09/07/20 03:21 PM

When I was in high school I got sent under a house to find the dead smell. It was a pregnant cat which died during labor I guess. Was worst smell I have very encountered. I threw up several times. I swear I can still smell that now.
sick

Good luck.

Re: Something died - 09/07/20 04:18 PM

Oh man it was a possum I don't know if it got stuck or what happen but it died in the hole of a cinder block. It was swollen up and came out in pieces. I'll admit I lost my dinner from last night under there and I've never had such a mess in my life to clean up Wish I had a "Guy" to call it stinks so bad and the ground under there is all wet and muddy from the rain...

After thinking about it I should of took the stack of blocks down and drug it out instead of removing him from the block, Yes he was a big Boy Possum. I didn't want to crawl back out so I just went for it and this was a very bad idea because as soon as I gave him a pull his skin rolled off from then on it was like pulling pork until I got him into the bag.

I will never do this again.

Re: Something died - 09/07/20 08:14 PM

Just got done going back under to spread out some cedar mulch he spelt his guts when he popped. I got all that I could see that I missed the first time laying on my belly it's hard to dig even with my army shovel it's so tight you have to turn your head sideways to see in front on you. Put a shop fan at the opening to draw more air and sure hope the wood chips kill the rest of the stink.

This made my whole day a bummer but it's all over now so as Bill would say it's Cocktail time cool2

OMG I never even thought about a snake killing him I was thinking old age or something maybe hit by a car. I would've had a heart attack if I saw a snake and y'all were the only ones that knew I was under there.

I would use a hoe (not the dimocrat VP candidate) to drag as much out as you can. It's probably going to stink longer being up under the house.

Call around to the local supply houses and ask for Rat Sorb, Smelleze. or Earth Care Janitorial and Industrial Odor removers.

Things can dig under a slab and die.

Houses on slabs are not immune to this type of thing. I had an Opossum die in my attic once. Of course it was all the way on the other side of the house from the access point...and it was summer.

Yep, skunks are serious diggers. I still have the odor 6 months after the skunk rodeo. I’m thinking there were some bambino’s that drowned when I flooded the hole.

Re: Something died - 09/08/20 04:43 PM

It's much better today can't smell it at all in the house and you really have to sniff hard to smell it outside the crawl space door. I coughed a few times last night and I could taste the smell sick I must of breathed to much of him.

I'm done I'm not going back under there anymore it's to tight and the snake thing really freaked me out. No way I could get out fast enough and I fight that claustrophobia feelings the whole time I'm under there it's just not worth it.
