Paid $700 for 73 chevy C10 in 1989, I was 15. Sold it a year later for the same money, wish I'd have kept it.

67 Chevelle SS - bought it from a friend in 1975 for $800. Sold it back to him in 1977 for $850.

Spent $400 dropping a nice 350 & Holly carb in it - ran great then, and I ran the hell out of it!

It was rusting out, and just about all the suspension was shot when I sold it in 1986, for $275, but motor still ran great!

$2,000 for a '79 Plymouth Horizon in '86. It was the "sport" model, TC3, stick shift that cranked out a whopping 49 HP. Mowed 200 yards to pay for it.

It had a 305 that was strong but one of those horrible Metric 400 trannies.

In 1976 I bought a used 1972 F-100 Ranger XLT for $2100. It was being used for towing goose-necks, so it had a utility flat bed on it. After I had already made the deal, the guy said "If you want the original bed, its in the barn, under some hay bails. The bed turned out to be almost perfect.

My first new car was a 1980 Chevy Monza. The "My mom had once dated the dealership's owner price" was $3,800 out the door. I wrote a check.

The prepsters at school with their fancy daddy cars used to just stare as i rumbled by. I know they were thinking “gee, i wish i had one of those.” Wrecked the tranny when i slid off an icy road into a ditch going deer hunting.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I actually own a 1956 Studebaker pickup, although it is probably a bit different than your first truck. My first vehicle was multi-primer and rust colored 64 Chevrolet long bed that I paid 1,200.00 for.

Mine was free. Ol' F-150 with a bent frame and smoked like the mosquito man, leaked oil everywhere. Busted glass, full of dents & rust. Biggest POS in the High School parking lot. I couldn't keep a girlfriend with that truck, none of them wanted to be seen riding in it LOL....but it got me to school, then to work, then home everyday and it was mine.

1970 El Camino for 1500 bucks. Bought it in 1976 with 52000 miles on it. 307 with 3 on the tree.

In fall of 1976 my parents bought a 1977 Nova two door for $6800.00(?). Just before I left for SFA in Aug 1980 I bought it for $3000.00. In the Spring or Summer of 1985 I sold it for $300.00.
It was beat up and the transmission was shot but the small block 305 was solid.

$4200. Took a loan out from the bank of Dad. Deal was I had to save up $1,000 first and then give him half my paychecks until I paid him back. My daughter is 15 and we are looking for her first car now. Fun times!

I bought my first new truck in 1978 also. It was a Carmine Red 1979 GMC Sierra Classic Heavy Half. I paid 7400(198.21 payment for 36 months) for it and was making 5.50 per hour stocking groceries for Winn Dixie. I was only 19 and kept that truck for 10 years till 1988 and it only had 74000 miles on it. The license plate was NK1936.

I remember all of that but can`t tell you what I had for supper last night. LOL

'72 Cutlass that Dad bought, so, I have no idea. Got it in '77? Before that, I drove his '64 Chevy shortbed with a '72 bed on it, 3 on the tree, to school. More than one girl sat snuggled up to me in that truck. Gun rack in the rear window. A brother gave it to a square-head Fbg. vulture. "Oh, he's gonna buy it when he figures out what it's worth." 'Miss it occasionally.

The deal with Grandma was that I could use the car when she didn’t need me to drive her somewhere. She never learned to drive.

I think it was $2500 for a 79 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 301, 400 turbo transmission, and a sun roof in 84. My dad took be to the bank and I took out a loan with him co-signing and the family car as collateral. I can’t remember how much the monthly payment was or the length of the loan but I do know I never missed a payment or late.

I had looked for a 64-69 Mustang for a long time and couldn’t ever find one in my price range and settled for Pontiac from a used car lot on Buckner Blvd in Dallas. In the lat 80’s I was looking for a 67 - 69 GTO and couldn’t find one in the $5000 range I sure wished I would have saved up a little bit more for one. I still want one to this day.

My mom gave me my first vehicle. My parents had just divorced and she had an extra truck and allowed me to have it. It was a 1985 GMC Sierra (I got it in 1989)...I did have to pay the insurance, repairs and gas. Insurance was $168/mo.

I did buy a 1966 Mustang when I was 12 for $200. I had hopes of restoring it so by the time I was 16 I would be driving it....After the divorce, my father didn't pay the bills the judge ordered him to, including child support...I had to sell the Mustang and I gave the money to Mom to save the house. A man in the next town over did buy it and restore it....and I used to see it for about 20 years. He sold it about 10 years ago and at least I don't have to see it and think about what could've been.

in 1983 I got a '72 Nova for $200 - it ran so poorly I had to tow it home from the sellers lot.
It ran, kinda, but rings were so shot on the 305 that came in it I had to put oil foulers on all 8 cyl to keep it running more than a couple days without fouling out- but I had bigger plans.
4 mos later we swapped a 350 high-torque into it, and that thing ran like a beast for the next 2 years I had it.

1000 for a 1974 Plymouth Duster in 1979. Had a 198 hillside Hemi with a three speed on the floor.

My Moms' 72 Monte carlo with nylon spun seats. Very comfy and warm. The back seat smelled like a chit house door on a tuna boat.

1992, I was 16, and i paid 900.00 for a 1967 chevrolet short bed stepside. I still own it and put it back on the road a few months ago. Never could make myself get rid if it. Still a work in progress.

Mine was a 2 door 1963 Chevy Impala 327 and 3 on the tree. Paid $750.00 for it was working at a Turkey ranch feeding and shoveling turkey sh*t.
Got the car before I had my license a few months later. Dad would let me drive it in front of the place.

$1600 for a 1971 Mercury Capri that I bought in 1977-got tired of driving in the snow on my motorcycle in Illinois. Pops said I couldn't drive it until I replaced the exhaust. It had Thrush header exhaust with Cherry Bombs on it and it was loud for a small car.

I bought a 68 charger when I was 25, 383 4 speed. Worked on it for 5 years, never completely finished it. Regret letting it go, but kids and bills forced the sell!
