My GMC seat is whipped

Posted By: Cast

My GMC seat is whipped - 07/30/19 12:58 AM

When I bought my 99 GMC Sierra 1500 LTE I was 200 pounds heavier and as a result, the driver seat really needs work, and is the next item on the ‘come back to life’ list. That is proving to be difficult. My guy was on six points in the old days, but his shop was paved over when six points was rebuilt years ago. He gone now. My old buddy had a good upholstery guy, but he died recently. I hear that there is a new guy in Springtown but he is in the hospital???

I am not sure I want to take on the job myself. I have done the research and the process and the components are confusing and mistakes will be expensive.

Where the heck can I find a decent honest guy or gal out my way, not in the city (Fort Worth) to work on my GMC interior? Wise or surrounding counties I suppose. Denton is my last choice as it is city, and there are no good honest deals in the city is my suspicion.

First I want the driver seat rebuilt, and then after proving that job up, the whole dang interior is next. I plan to drive this truck a while.

Please help me THF. Do not make me post more bad jokes...

Color and material? Electric or manual? Lumbar support?

I will see what I can find you.

www.car-part.com

Listing of a lot of salvage yards. Search by distance or price or whatever you want. If you see something out east of Dfw I could snag and get it closer.

It is gray fabric. Manual no lumbar support. It is the three door version so the seat has a fancy mount that comes back to the saved spot after being folded forward, but I do not necessarily need the sliding memory mount.

Or to have it redone there as a good shop in Denton but it’s not cheap by any means.

I quit reading after you dropped 200 Pounds.

Wow. That’s impressive.

Hwy 6 salvage way out east has a couple maybe. I emailed them. We will see.

A lot of 1999-2003 trucks/Tahoes/suburbans are being parted out on craigslist. Those all have the same seat I think.

Go to the grand prairie flee market. I've bought a bench seat for my truck there.

That signature is one of the great things about this site.

There is a junk yard in Alvord. Forget which road it’s off, but it’s near Clear Lake in the grasslands.

Barclay’s Salvage. A lot of classic cars thirty minutes north. That is worth a shot! Thanks.

Thanks guys. But it took a while to drop it all. Like a couple years.

The Facebook classifieds have tons of “take off” seats listed. Most are more modern seats but I’ve seen a lot of the gen you are looking for too.

SniperRAB told me about Chapo's on Felix St. in North Fort Worth. 817-626-1434.

My 01 Silverado was down to the wires on the drivers seat. Total restoration $250 and two days later. Very happy customer.

He will ask for half up front, but it is a family business that has been there for a long time.

Re: My GMC seat is whipped - 07/30/19 04:37 AM

It's city, but Dees Trim Shop in Plano does very good work and comes highly recommended. I'd skip the salvage yards, as they're likely to have a ton of miles on them as well, and who knows how rancid an *censored* crack has been upon them. Looks like there's several manufacturers who make replacement foam and covers, go ahead and spend a little more if you're gonna keep the truck, and end up with a brand new seat.

It’s in Fort Worth but on Jacksboro HWY ! They do amazing work and affordable and are known for doing many hot rods at car shows. Names North Side Upholstery . Other then that like others stated salvage yards or Facebook market page

I actually found a place! Forest for the trees thing. It is a neighbor lady less than a mile from me. Double T Upholstery in Haslett. I spoke with her tonight and ‘she does those seats all the time!’ I will take the GMC to her day after tomorrow. Tomorrow she has to get under her house and repair her duct work. Her ‘damn cat tore it up’. I think I like this lady.
