HISD principal set dress code for parents - 04/23/19 12:45 PM

James Madison High School will turn away parents if they show up wearing bonnets, pajamas, hair rollers, or leggings among other clothing items. For or against?

I’m sure those aren’t the clothes that he’s worried about.

At HISD schools over the span of 25 years, I have seen parents in sheer nightgowns, pajamas, pants far below the buttocks (cracks showing) and much more. I even saw a parent, at an elementary school, wearing a T-shirt with animals fornicating. Why shouldn't we hold parents to the same dress standards as students--after all, they are setting an example for their kids to follow.

Uniforms are established at schools so there will be no distractions from the academic atmosphere. They also help eradicate the issues of class, gender and race.

Wear want you want at home but schools should hold standards of academic excellence and professionalism, with no distractions, for all who enter.

Public education should be a earned privilege.....not a right. Why should I have to pay for these derelicts to be in school and then pay for them again to be in jail/prison.

Some of the moms should be allowed to keep wearing their leggings.

I agree with the principal. You dont have to dress up like you're going to some formal affair when you go to your child's school but you should look presentable. The principal is a very lovely black lady so I don't believe racism played any part in her decision.

I guarantee that my sister, a retired HISD principal would back her 100%.

Madison was a dump back in the early 80's

100% for it. I've been in the school business for 30 years and you cannot believe what some of the mothers wear to school
to talk to their kids teacher or principal when they are in trouble. Some of the items of clothing would make a streetwalker blush.

I grew up in the neighborhood next to Madison HS back in the ‘60’s. Parents moved us to Ft. Bend county in ‘71 for a reason.

Glad I didn’t have to attend Madison. One year at Dowling JH was bad enough.

I find the actual workout pants to be a slightly thicker, robust material that helps smooth out any irregularities one might have, along with hold things IN/UP better. Leggings are thin!

Just my observation up

Every now and then one of my grandsons will text me to bring something out to the school that like most other teenagers have forgotten and left at home. I'm normally in the shop working. I'll always come to the house and change clothes before going out to the school. I don't dress up so to say but put on clothes that are presentable.

I have to say this, after meeting some of the parents, I'm surprised just how good some of the kids turn out.

Yeah, a weight limit of 140 lbs should be imposed.

Also needs an age limit, I am seeing some that still can do the walk, but at 60 plus, the clothes need to match the age.

and height limit for that 140 lbs ... 4'10" at 140 lbs about the same as 5'7" 200 lb ...

also I tend to agree with the age limit too but as I get older, that age limit creeps up as long as they are maintaining themselves ... geekfreak

Age limit creeps up..............not me man. Its getting hard to look at anything past mid 30s and still getting that same feeling.

As far as the weight limit goes, we should adhere to it as well.

True, I saw a woman the other day that had to be in her upper 70's wearing yoga pants. She wasn't a big woman but was too old to be wearing what she had on.

You should put a height with that and make it a ratio.

Leggings is just another name for pantyhose. You don't stuff ten pounds of crap in a five pound bag. What I've seen at Walmart ought to be illegal.
