Shilen .30cal SS barrel - 08/10/22 02:01 PM
I have a Shilen SS barrel that has been threaded for a Mauser and short chambered for .308win. Barrel is 26 1/8” long, 1-10” twist, heavy contour.
$225 or trade for a CM 9.3 barrel.

Do you think it could be re-threaded for a small receiver Savage? Could be fully chambered as a 30/06 yes?

The tenon for the Mauser could be cut off and it could then be threaded for whatever, barrel would finish out around 25”.

So I could have this chambered for 300 PRC or 300 Win Mag and threaded for Rem 700 action?

Correct. Plenty of barrel shank left for re-threading. And so long as the new chambering dimensions mimic or exceed what will remain of the .308 chamber. Both the calibers mentioned will be good.

I could be wrong but I think it’s even crowned(recessed), will check tomorrow. All work was done by Shilen, barrel has never been shot.

Let me know. Because I'll more than likely take it.

The muzzle was faced, but I can’t say to what degree since no additional work was done to dress it up. Best to have it crowned.

When you say heavy contour does that mean like heavy varmint contour, as in .940 at the muzzle?
Thank you
