drove by these coming back from dove hunting. Was wondering the same thing. Years ago, The Smokestack was great as was Mary's. I think time has taken a toll on both these. Hi food costs, ownership changes, have hurt these restaurants. Interested if anybody agrees.

Never been to New York Hill.

Mary`s has never changed ownership. Don`t know about the other 2. Been eating @ Mary`s since 1990. Not even as good as it once was if you ask me and overpriced, but I`m a very picky eater and hard to please. Their Mexican food hasn`t changed any if you ask me though. The Smokestack has more cars in their parking lot than it used to have, if that tells you anything. I have eaten there in 25 years though. NY Hill was good when I ate there 8-9 years ago, and I haven`t heard anything bad about it either. If you want a cold beer, I`d go to Mary`s and if you don`t, check out NY Hill.

stand corrected, guess the owner, she got greedy and started cutting the quality of her meats.

Hit up Smokestack 2 years ago just out of nostalgia, was pleasantly surprised in its quality.

Believe it or not Matts Ranchero in Allen off 75 between McDermott and Bethany has an awesome CFS. It's griddle cooked just like Mary's and you can get it topped with Gravy or Tex Mex style covered in Queso or chile con carne and cheese.

Mac's Bar and Grill in Arlington. The best I have ever had. Plus their endless salad is one of the best.

Never heard of the ones listed in the OP.

Cheddar's is decent. I have had the CFS at the Sherman location.

Chubby's on E NW WHY near the GM Training Center is really good.

I like Norma's on Beltline in Addison too.

Don't think there is a Norma;s on Beltline in Addison? I have been to their Oak Cliff and Dallas Parkway locations, to me the food is average.

Looks like Ozona Grill which has very good CFS is competing for the same "Get in my Belly" customers as Norma's.

There was in the late '90's when I lived in the metroplex. Guess it moved to Dallas Parkway. Pretty sure there was just the two then.

Back then there was just two, now there is 5 around the metromess.

I am going to give Jonathan's at Forest Lane & Inwood Rd. a try, bunch of great reviews, looks and sounds pretty darn good.

I've been going there for years and never tried the CFS probably just because it never felt like a CFS type of place. I always get a filet, etouffee, or one of their seafood options like shrimp, salmon or blackened orange roughy. Definitely going for the chicken fried after reading this! And yes, their salad as well as bread is amazing.

Nah it’s terrible, slightly crappier than Mary’s no matter what you top it with
