If you can eat it all, plus the fries, rolls, corn bread and two sides; you get a hat and your picture on the wall of fame.

I went to the one in Tomball a couple of years ago. One of the worst CFS I've ever had. Gravy tasted like it came from a jar and the bread was cold and hard.

Re: Chickem Fried Steak - 10/04/13 01:47 PM
I like Mary's, though it's not what it once was.
I don't eat CFS enough anymore to know what's good or bad as they all taste good to me compared to what I normally eat (I can tell you who has good grilled chicken though).
M&M Steakhouse on NE 28th in Fort Worth used to have a good one and Hoffbrau had a decent one as well. The last REALLy good CFS I had was actually at a mexican food joint over in Arlington, but I can't remember the name. I was hesitant, but a buddy was insistant that I try it and I'm glad he did.
As a sidebar, on my last trip to Mary's I ordered the grilled chicken with steamed brocolli. The waitress made me show it to her on the menu and said no one had ordered it before. I found that pretty funny.

Best CFS I've ever had was in Zapata down by Falcon. There's a small restaurant on the North (east) side of 83 right before you cross the lake. It's right behind the little grocery store. Best chicken fried ever!! They have a little twist though. They put homemade gravy AND cheese on it. First time I heard of it I thought cheese on my chicken fried...... No way...... It's actually pretty amazing!

In its glory days, Massey's on 8th Avenue in Fort Worth was the best of the best. The Massey family ran it for 50 years. It went down hill after they leased it out and is now history. Nothing fancy, just a very good cut of meat and double dipped in a flour, milk and egg batter. 6000 steaks a week and the recipe never changed as long as there was a Massey in the building

I don't remember the exact location, been too long ago. I use to lunch there when I was working out that way. I think Ron Stone or somebody on "The Eyes of Texas" did a short show on Goodsons. I went in there about a week later and it was soo busy I couldn't get a seat. I ask one of the cooks what happened and she said "it had been like this every since "that guy" put it on tv".

The best I ever had isn't in business anymore to my knowledge. When I worked downtown Dallas there was a place there called Wall Streets (this was the mid 90's)...they had a CFS that was actually a Ribeye (yeah they cheated) but oh, it was to both huge and to die for...
