Ocean's Prime is outstanding. Pricy but worth it. Scallops are killer as well as the cobia. Newports is good and been there a long time. Cafe Pacific.

What part of Dallas are you going to be in?
And when you say Seafood, are you talking fried Catfish & Oysters or a higher end place?

Re: Best Seafood in Dallas - 01/04/13 01:34 PM

Unfortunately Newports closed a while back, Rockfish is like the Chillis of seafood, its okay. Nates & Lefty's Chowder House in Addison are very good and reasonable.

Good Seafood and Dallas shouldn't be in the same sentence

You want good seafood, you need to be in a coastal town.

Ocean Prime or Oceanaire in Dallas are both great.

I'm not stating the below as fact, because I'm sure there are cases to the contrary. High end places have their fish flown in daily, so there is no difference between gulf snapper on ice in Minnesota and gulf snapper sitting on ice in Houston if they were delivered the same day.

I've read that most fish (and especially shrimp) are flash frozen on the boat anyways. Sounds like an oxy moron, but frozen fish, most of the time, is more fresh than fresh fish....

It's hard to tell where people get their fish from unless you ask, probably most cafes and diners just use tyson or another food service company for all their seafood.

S&D Oyster Company is a family favorite of ours.

Pappadeaux is my favorite. Get a Pappadelicious to go with your meal. Hurricane with a dark rum meltdown on top.

Re: Best Seafood in Dallas - 01/18/13 04:21 AM

I know you said you usually go to Pappadeaux, but honestly their sea food is top notch, especially the fried shrimp!

x3 Haven't been to that one, but my wife and I ate at Eddie V's in Austin and it was very good seafood. They have excellent steaks, too, in case someone in your party doesn't want seafood. I thought it was much better than Ruth's Chris.

Re: Best Seafood in Dallas - 03/19/13 02:26 AM

Eddie V's is on 7th street Fort Worth.

La Calle Dolce get enchilada de camaron' or the Cameron' al la plancha.

Both killer. Paella is great too. Ceviche to start. Best ceviche in Dallas

If no one has said Rex's yet. I would discredit everyones suggestions. Rex's has the freshest seafood without all the sauces and crap the other places throw on. Ocean Prime is great if you want a nice meal. Rex's is more casual but just as good seafood with better selection.

peep Be careful a place like Rex's may not be well received...the idea of simply prepared high quality fresh seafood is rather novel around DFW...it is so much easier/cheaper to use low quality seafood and slather a some sauce on it. Couple that with a trendy place and you have winner in DFW.

but...Rex's is good food, along with S&D Oyster and Cafe Pacific.

Re: Best Seafood in Dallas - 03/20/13 03:45 AM

I have never been to Rex's, but just looked at the menu. Looks great. I plan on giving it a try some time.

Re: Best Seafood in Dallas - 03/20/13 12:45 PM

The Boiling Crab has some really good boiled stuff; crawfish, shrimp, crab, etc. You can pick the amount of spice in case you have some people with you who really like it spicey or don't... I'm pretty much with everyone else though: Dallas and seasfood...Prolly should just eat Mexican or steak.

Re: Best Seafood in Dallas - 03/22/13 02:16 AM

Went to the new Hook Line & Sinker on Preston rd.

Disapointed, I had Oyster PoBoy with red beans & rice, few Oysters with little flavor, red beans & rice very average.
Wife & daughter had Fried Catfish, they both said okay but on the bland side, even the fish had no fish taste. Son had a dozen fried shrimp, again just okay. Darn I was hoping it would be good.
For my area Big Shucks on Coit rd. is the best so far!
