Our girl got into a rattler tonight

Our English Setter got hit by a small (3 ft prolly) rattler in the back yard tonight, she is not doing well. At the 24 hour vet getting treatment for a bad reaction despite the vaccines every year. I hit that snake so hard I broke the rake handle. gonna be a long night.

The ER vet is crazy busy and they only have 1 Doctor working today. We are hoping that no news is good news at this point. We have called twice with no access to a doc

We knew last night around 11 that she was having really bad reaction, so bad they originally thought it was an allergic reaction and she was going into anaphylaxis.

We heard about 4pm that she had pulled a complete 180 and was back to herself. I picked her up at 5 and other than a little Benadryl for a couple of days and some limited outside time it seems she's good. We'll sleep good tonight I think! Thanks guys.

There’s a little swelling on her nose. And yes I paid either a Porsche or house payment for someone this month. We’ve got a follow up with our vet tomorrow just to check things out.

Dogs are incredibly tough. I've had many bitten over the years, all recovered 100%.

benadryl works about as good as anything else.

FYI antivenom is in short supply in the US and most vets don't carry it. You can buy it in Mexico it keeps forever if refrigerated. olYou also maybe able to find expired antivenom from herpetotologists and zoos. Some of it an be retested and recertified.

Had the same thing happen to my mini-schnauzer and I was up with her for 2 days
She made it,,,,,,,, but now she wont go out into the yard at night unless I am with her and she then SCOUTS every inch of the yard before she will play

Thanks guys for all the support. She is back to normal for the most part. she is a little more skittish though. The family next door have 3 boys in little league and Dad is practicing with them a few times a week. Batty does NOT like the sound of that aluminum bat for sure or just a simple rain like today.
