When to give rattlesnake vaccine

Does it matter when you give your dog the vaccine?

Since it lasts approx. 6 mos, I recommend giving the vaccine before bird season(i.e. right now). It should cover them through the winter.

For dogs that live year-round in rattlesnake country....twice yearly.

Feb and august. Catches the peak moving period for snakes about 30 days after shot. What my vet advised.

This is what I do as well for my dog. Every 6 months. August before bird season and February before spring.

FYI You have to give 2 shots the first time about a week apart I believe.

I paid like 45 bucks but it was his first shot.

You get the second one after 3-4 weeks.

I hope I can get it for 18 bucks next time.

Do they sell it anywhere so you can do it yourself? I hate to pay for a vet visit just to get one little shot.

This is what I did too. I think I paid $20 for mine.

Just got the booster for my guy a few weeks ago. Ain't scared of no snick snacks now.

Will the rattle snake vaccine work for copper heads and moccasins, or is a vaccine for those specific snakes needed?

Just for rattlesnake to my knowledge.

my vet said 30 days after first shot. he is hog hunter and he says it is working on all snakes they encounter in hunting with their hog dogs. i pay 15 bucks per shot. give it myself.

I normally vaccinate in March so that my dogs are protected through the summer months when snakes are more active. I don't worry about snakes much from November to March 1 in and around Menard County.

I was told it works with mocassins as well.

It is protects against rattlesnakes and copperheads, but not water moccasins. Moccasins have a different type of venom. I asked the vet a couple of months ago...

Gator gets hers in August and February. Rattle snakes and copper heads are covered. She won't get near a water mic, but I don't believe them to be covered.
