Shoot Hogs from a Helicopter - 12/14/11 02:07 PM

Shoot hogs from a helicopter – no limit – hunt all year – lots of hogs
Have the time of your life shooting feral hogs from a helicopter. Farmers and ranchers are inundated with feral hogs. Hogs cause millions of dollars of damage each year so the Texas Legislature has made it legal to shoot hogs from a helicopter. We have helicopters, land and lots of hogs to shoot. **Copy of email I recieved**

Thank you for your interest in feral hog hunting.
Feral hogs have gotten out of hand in the farm and ranch community so the Texas legislature changed the law on shooting hogs from a helicopter to allow a shooter to pay for the privilege of representing a landowner in shooting of feral hogs. By definition this is not sport shooting from a helicopter. Our objective is to kill as many hogs as possible.
If you qualify, you will ride in our helicopter as a representative of the landowner to kill as many hogs as possible. We use shotguns with buckshot because that gives us the best kill rate. We furnish the shotguns and you furnish the ammo. We use Benelli semi-automatic ,  seven shot shotguns. We buy shells by the case to save money and you pay for what you use.
Let me tell you up front that this is expensive. We have to charge you a registration fee to cover the filings with Texas Parks and Wildlife plus a criminal background check. There is a lot of paperwork. The registration fee is $100.00 and is non-refundable. We do not require that you attend a school but you will be required to sit through an extensive briefing. The fee for the briefing is included in the registration fee. The helicopter rate is $700.00 per hour for one shooter or $850.00 per hour for two shooters. One shoots while the other re-loads. We recommend that you find a buddy and do a two shooter flight. It’s much more fun and memorable. It is a four place Robinson R-44 helicopter and our pilots are high time with a high percentage of their time doing low level work. You will not find safer pilots anywhere. We have a three hour minimum per day as it takes a lot of effort to prepare and schedule a flight with a landowner. I have to tell you that even though this is expensive and we cannot guarantee that you will kill any hogs, if we find a good size group of hogs and you get to shoot, you will never forget the experience. The hunters I have carried in a helicopter that have shot hogs just rave and rave about how much fun it is. They are hooked after one flight. I have to repeat, we cannot guarantee that you will kill a hog. This could end up a very expensive helicopter ride.
The land that we hunt is mostly within a one hundred mile radius of Houston, mostly Wharton, Matagorda, Jackson and Austin counties. There is an abundance of hogs and they do a lot of damage. Farmers and Ranchers use every means possible to eradicate them, from hunting with dogs and horses to night vision scopes and trapping. We mostly leave the dead hogs lying for the buzzards but if you want to recover one or two, it can be arranged. We don’t recommend this. The dead hog has to be recovered within an hour of shooting, and you want to choose only young hogs for eating. We will have to charge extra for that and some landowners don’t allow it. You are allowed and encouraged  to shoot coyotes.

A typical hunt should cost:
1.    Registration fee:    for two        $200.00
2.    Three hours helicopter    2 shooters    $2550.00
3.    Shotgun Shells     @ $1.50 50 rnds each    $150.00

Total:                    $2900.00
If you are still interested after the “Sticker Shock” I will send you a registration package for you to complete and we can go from there.

Here is a list of requirements that you must complete to qualify for a flight:
1.    Criminal background check.
2.    Texas hunting license.
3.    Registration with contact information.
4.    No Parks and Wildlife violations.
5.    Registration fee $100.00
6.    Safety briefing.
7.    Helicopter procedures.
8.    Rules and Regulations.
9.    Shooting and Reloading.
10.    Debriefing procedures.

Once you are qualified and wish to book a flight we will check availability of property that has a reasonable probability that hogs will be there. We do everything possible to increase the probability that you will kill hogs. When you book the flight we require a $1500 deposit on the three hour minimum flight.
Thanks again.

wow last time I flew It was 475.00 an hour for a R44 and that was befor hunting season. That is an expensive hog hunt. It is a blast if your on the hogs or varmints but not 3000.00 worth of fun. Can think of a lot of other things for 3k.
