Strongest 12 volt motor - 01/11/23 08:36 PM

I need to put a stronger 12 volt motor on my deer feeder, are there other options than regular deer feeder motors?

I used a replacement heater blower motor for a 1960s Ford Fairlane and a Tornado spin plate in my "super slinger" feeder build. 12 Volt of course. And I am sure it is a generic replacement part that fits several autos of the day. It will sting if your standing too close to it when it goes off. If I remember the two mounting rods went all the way through the motor sticking out both sides, so the nuts had to be backed off for the threaded rods to be adjusted to going only out the top and then cut down to the length I needed to fit below the spin plate. Mine is in a 50 Cal ammo box and fit just fine, but you would want to make sure the motor is not too tall for your application if you want to try and go that route.

Same style as Ramball puts in his feeders, they sling feed plenty far enough and plates are readily available.

SIL had one of his feeder motors evidently quit, one yr old feeder. Assume they are brush DC motors so any with proper specs work? He said the test mode does OK but shows motor error. Could be batt just low? Too darn hot to go look at it this weekend.

OK, fixed his motor. Looks like and was replaced by the High Wild one. Undo the top nuts about half way, use a C clamp (to keep the rotor from coming out) top of shaft and rear of motor. I disassmbled the entire motor. Stator magnets are STRONG. Thin flat blade to move the top plate out (there is a finger ring retainer under the ball). The bulge on top plate is a socket for a ball that spins in the socket. Force some lubriplate into the shaft opening AROUND the ball. If you pull the rotor you get to play with the brushes which is somewhat difficult. Use a large dia socket to knock the top plate back down. Save 35$. 10 min job.
His would barely turn with a wrench on the shaft. Ohm-meter showd no opens or shorts of the windings. Proper lube and she works fine now.
Also had an AR15 223 blow up on me, banging steel and wham, bits in the arm and face. Not mine and I didn't load it. Evidently ( I just saw mag parts on the ground, basically got fragged by mag parts.) somebody loaded 223 on top of some 300BO. Fortunatley (gave the rifle to SIL and went to get blood cleaned up) slight cut on jaw and arm. Took something in the chest but no cut. Be careful. Upper and lower are trash now. Fri nite my them batt died so no hogs but the GK got one under the green lite Sat nite, 9:30. Darn!!
