i like your stands (5 and 10 foot) but have a question. not trying to be negative but just wondering. with all the long diagonal braces going the same direction around the stand, when a building on top catches wind will the stand want to twist? maybe the smaller brace will keep it from happening. what do you think the max load is in the middle of the top of platform? being a fat boy, i have to worry about these things.
I'll start by saying I'm not an engineer. What I do know is that square tubing tends not to twist as angle iron does. In theory with the braces all going the same direction, one brace pushs as the other braces pulls. Therefore keeping the wall or in this case legs in place. As far as max load. The weakest point would be the legs. So a 10' leg would be 1/2 as strong as a 5' leg. I have a protein feeder that holds a little over #2000 with more angle on the legs. Also have a 10' utility trailer built out of the same stuff. I would think the 5' base would hold well over #2000. I understand your concerns, and hope this helps.
Great looking setup. Do you mind me asking what angle the stairs are to the base?
Thanks siencehunter. I built these at 55deg. which is not bad, but I think I will go to a 50deg on larger Towers and 45deg on smaller ones. Mainly because hunters who can't use a ladder, just 10deg may make a huge difference.
Are you displaying these blinds somewhere in Goldthwaite?
No. I've just built a few for a client in Jonesboro.
Why do you ask?
Just thought I'd drive by and take a look at one. I hunt up in Comanche and do business at Hoffpauir's.
Well you pass by me all the time on your way to Comanche. I'm actually working at my house in Gustine. I'm currently just doing custom orders so don't have any stock built up. But your welcome to stop by sometime I'll probably building something. Just pm me and I will give you my address. (but not this weekend, Turkey Season. )
