I have 8 in a circle surround a 600lb spin feeder and a 350lb protein feeder...should have gone with 10, but it works just fine.

What height did you use, I swear some people use 4 foot panels, but if you just want to keep out hogs I don't see why you would need more than 3'. Me I always just used barbed wire, but I will most likely go with hog panels. Anyone ever use the roll fencing, can get 330' for 100 bucks as opposed to the more expensive hog panels.

If I had a choice I would not fence in my feeders. i experimented last season by just throwing out corn by hand and comparing it to the number of deer that went into the feed pen. I had 3-4 times the amount of deer eat from the corn I hand threw compared to the amount of deer in the feeder pen. If had the option of making another feed pen, I would make it a very large one. I can only hand throw corn toward the end of rifle season because the horses and cows stay near the barn where they are fed, well away from my stands. No vegies growing that time of year.

That was my tought with the roll fence, as oppose to 8 or 10 hog panels, I have a lot more fence for the price and can make a larger area for both a protein and corn feeded without crowding them in a pen.

I tried the "roll" fence. If your talking about the vegtable gard stlye fence... If your trying to keep hogs out...they will bust right through it. For some reason they dig right under it too.

A chain length fence would be cool..

My only concern is shooting the fence.

My buddy has the panels and has had no hogs enter it.

Another good tip is to make a gate with the hog panels and during hunting season..while your down there...leave it open to invite the deer in.

I do agree though I noticed deer would rather eat what has fallen on the outside or hand thrown rather than jump a 3' foot fence...

2 would be way to small.
I have 6 I think... in a circle so it's a #6 hog trap when it's not deer season.

Short panels wouldn't keep hogs out, not too long ago someone posted a video of 2 hogs jumping fence panels with ease, just like a deer would.

I used cattle panels...which are very tall but cut down many sides for the deer to get in with ease. I have personally seen deer jump true "hog panels" so we stay away from those. We would use barbed wire but we have no top soil but have had luck using trees and stretching the wire with a truck or 4wheeler.

I have used the roll fence and the hogs went through it. My mistake was not making heavy corners and stretching it real tight. I just T-posted a large circle using 5 clips per post. It was not tight enough to hold them out. Over time they kept working on it until they got under. I think it would work if you made it a permanent pen with the proper bracing and corners. That being said, the cattle panels would be cheaper and faster in the long run.

The roll fence I was refering too is commonly called horse fence at tractor supply and atwoods. It is defininately not garden fencing, but it is also not as heavy as panels.

Honestly, how much money do you want to spend? I would recommend 8-10 but you can get away with 6 if money is tight.

Make the pen as big as you can afford. I would saw minimum 8 panels. I know smaller ones are ok but the bigger the more comfortable the deer are in them.

The 42" tall roll fence I used was from Tractor supply and is typically what is used for goat fence. It should have been plenty strong to keep them out. I just didn't stretch it tight enough and have strong enough corners.

I just made my new feeder pen and I used 8 cattle panels it worked great and was easy to set up. We built my brother a feeder pen before mine and used concrete wire mesh. I will work fine but was hard to mess with and took too long. I will always spend the extra $ to build with cattle panels.

I will also be able to shoot into the pen with my bow when I am elevated in my tripod. It looks like a great set up for me and know it will be a long 7 months.
