AT&T Getting Rid of SMS Communication

AT&T Getting Rid of SMS Communication - 06/29/15 08:57 AM

I have a few Covert Black Ops and one of the cool features was to be able to send some commands via SMS to the camera. AT&T is discontinuing this service effective immediately cry

Are you sure what they are discontinuing is the SMS capability and not the 2G service? I do appreciate the fact your camera isn't going to send pics either way. Current generation cameras use 3G, they announced the withdrawl of 2G service in 2012 which will go on for several years.

I have the 2014 black ops 3g and I can still send commands to my camera and it responds?

Covert says sooner or later you will not be able to do that. Mine was sooner

I'm not a mobile communications expert, but SMS is how text messages are sent, and I don't understand how SMS texting would go away with 3G coverage. That would impact more than just a game camera. I would think a 3G camera could access 2G service which would be a potential answer to what you are seeing.

Don't know if it has anything to do with 2g or 3g. It sends photos via MMS but is supposed to receive SMS commands via text. All four of mine quit doing that and they are set with SMS on. I called covert and they said AT&T is discontinuing the SMS part.

I just put my covert out two days ago and have been researching as to why mine was not working. This explains it. I to cannot send it commands like the #500#......, I am getting pics of deer and pigs to my phone however. Sucks that you by a product that works with AT&T then they change things on ya...... I love this camera and will continue to use it however

I have a 2014 Black ops 3g that I just got a couple months ago. Although I dont use the SMS, it went through a set of batteries in about 2 months. Im going to cut down the number of pics it sends to try to do that and want to set it up on solar. I saw a cord (Kobiconn 172-0171) people suggested with 6v battery, but only found a place to buy that cord in 100 piece lots. The solar setup at custom1enterprises, i was told wasnt recommended with the 2014 model. Suggestions on where to buy cord to just make my own solar/6v?

Any updates on the camera receiving commands from your phone? Thinking about buying one but would like to know the issues before I purchase.

Thanks,

I bought the Covert Solar Panel setup and after I finally installed as the directions said, it worked great.

I have the 2014 model and made my own cord. Went to radio shack to get the male end and used cord I had. Set it up with 6v battery and charger and have had the same batteries in it for 2 years with no problems.

Had trouble with my camera for the first time but found this online and followed the directions. Back up and running perfectly again...cheers!
