backpack

what backpack are y'all using? i have a really hard time paying over 100 dollars for a damn bag that I'm carrying my stuff in... I'm not hiking long distances, or anything crazy.. need a descent bag with no issues... thoughts?

What all do you plan to put in it? It sounds like you aren't trekking up into the mountains or having to live out of your pack or use it to haul your trophy several miles back to camp. Are you talking about normal gear like some binoculars, a range finder, a knife or two maybe? Stuff like that?

yeah just normal stuff. binos, range finder, knives, gloves, face paint, a couple calls either deer or turkey.. thats really it.. maybe a small lunch and water as well.. probably a small first aid kit.

Eberlestock Gunslinger II

Expensive, heavy even when empty, tolerates as much torture as you can throw at it. I use it for rifle matches and hunting. It has been to hell and back and not a single stitch nor buckle has been damaged.

Only gripe is the weight of it. Figured I'd just make sure and stay in good shape.

For the purposes you state, seems like a $20 Wal Mart special would be fine. If you ever go to gun shows you can get some surprisingly good Chinese packs for under $25 too. I have one for my whitetail hunting pack so I can just leave the stuff in it all the time.

I agree. If you're only hauling normal stuff to a tree stand or ground blind, maybe walking in a mile or so or maybe less, then it doesn't matter too much. I wouldn't shell out big bucks for something as simple as that. A nice gunshow pack, maybe one of these so called "tactical" packs that seem to have a lot of pockets and ways to organize your gear would be good. $50 or less, and plenty adequate for the job you have in mind.

I just use my laptop bag. I think I paid $30 for it at Fry's.

If you just want a cheap daypack I would just get a Redhead or something similar at Bass Pro. If you want a "quality" daypack I would highly recommend a Badlands Pursuit. They sell for $99.99 at Bass Pro and will carry everything you need for Texas hunting. If you are hunting out west I would move up to the Badlands Super Day Pack. Both have lifetime warranties and are excellent packs. You get what you pay for with Badlands!!

With the A-5 or T-4 stocks, and big ole optics, I need all of the room I have in the scabbard. That's the price I pay for not having a light pack like yours.

Yelp, think stock will fit(will know for sure when creedmoor gets here) but don't think stock plus any scope over 44mm will.

Pretty tight with mc classic and 50mm swaro. But its a handly little pack

Had 3 great seasons so far with my badlands fanny pack. Has magnets instead of zippers, nice and quiet, no complaints yet.

a quality pack runs ya a nice penny these days for sure!

Hit up an Army/Navy surplus store and grab an ALICE pack for maybe $40 or so, may be another $10-$15 extra for one with a frame on it. Great packs and while they may not look all that big they will carry enough clothing, gear, and food for a few days. My old man has used an ALICE pack for his hunting & gun needs for at least 30 years and it's still truckin on strong.

I put my deer hunting gear in my turkey hunting vest and wear it to the stand. Plenty of room for my gear. I also freeze a couple bottles of water for bow season when it is hot.

I have an old Badlands that is just to small. So I bought a new Academy Game Winner for $45 to see how it holds up. If it doesn't last but for a couple seasons I will pony up the dough to purchases a bigger Badlands. All I really use it for is hauling my stuff from vehicle to Blind. Every now and then I will venture to the bottom of our canyon on a Trek.

For a bargin bin priced pack I have found nothing that can come close to the Fieldline Tactical packs that Walmart sells for $25. I have carried mine every day during hunting season for 2 full seasons and to all the trade shows, gun shows, etc and this thing has held up incredibly well! Rain, shine, sleet, snow, 100+ degree heat, single digit cold, several high speed falls from the ATV, and even run over once by the ATV but this thing is still in one piece and functions 100% like the day I bought it. Only thing I have done to it is spray it with a water repellent to make it water resistant.

For a high quality pack my choice would be Eberlestock.

Alps has some nice packs. I have a smaller one with an internal frame. It has a spot for water bladder and a bunch of other carp. Works good and was pretty decent price on midway.

I have the same ones JCB mentioned. Look for the tactical style backpack at wal-mart in the hunting section when hunting season gets closer.
