Game Cam Longevity Question

OK, I have something that I'm curious about.

I have two identical game cams(make/model not important).
I put one in my back yard on June 2nd and one out on a property on the 4th.
Both were set up the same way and with the same disposable batteries.

The one in my back yard has since taken 12 pictures and still shows to have about 50% battery life on it.
The one I put out in the field was dead when I went to check it yesterday and had only taken 5 pics. The last pic registered about 5 days after I put it out.

Aside from bad batteries or a bad unit, why would the one with less activity have completely drained the batteries and the one in my backyard that took more than twice as many pics, has been running longer and still has plenty of juice left??

Are the ones on the field night pictures?

Run the test again to see if it was an anomaly.

Yeah, I've got em in my back yard now. we'll see what happens.

I guess what I was asking was if the one in the field is taking more night time pictures. Night pictures will eat up more battery.

Are you using the same brand and type of memory card in both?

Every game camera I have owned has taken hundreds of pictures before the batteries expired. If I was getting 5 and dead and 12 and half life I would get my money back on both of them.

you might see if you can update the firmware? in my moultries i had to do that.

Picked up a pair of Moultrie I40 cameras on a deal from the factory. First one is eating batteries every few days. Haven't tested #2. If it is the same, Moultrie is going to get their "deal" back.

#2 is not as bad as #1 but it also is a battery eater.

I've had. Little D50 for 4 years now and had it in the field every year for at least six months. I recently purchased Moultrie's solar charger and am getting it ready for it's 5th year. My Moultriei's really pull the batteries but the charger is awesome.....and no batteries. The "elements" may be different from your yard to the field, ie. shade, wind, rain, sun...... That may be the deal for your different experiences.

The I40 is not near as bad on batteries but the display kept going out until I started putting black tape over it to keep the sun off of it. I have 2 d50 and the charger/battery is a must. The pics are great

I'd just put a external battery and solar panel. Both my wildgame cameras were that way. Now they never come in out of the field. Both have been out there for 2 years.
