kill light xlr250 review - 02/21/11 08:29 PM
My review of the Kill light XLR 250
I played around with a couple of low-end night vision scopes and decided if im going to get in the sport of night hunting, its better to buy top of the line then waste your money on junk.
However I do not have a wad of cash floating around. I looked into several other options. I read alot about the Nd3, but was not sold on the idea of it not working in cold temperatures as some reported. And not to mention the price…It is a little to expensive.
I then looked into the Kill light manufactured by Elusive Wildlife. I wanted the best so I opted for the XLR 250 over the 100. I couldn’t decide what color to get in red or green?
So for around $200 I went with the “Pro Pack”. It included the Flash light, 3 LEDS (green, red, and white) wall charger, car charger, 2 different configuration scope mounts, and 3 different switches. (A push button switch, pressure switch and a toggle switch). And last but not least a sticker of Elusive Wildlife
Upon receiving the light, the packing was nicely put together. The actual flash light looked and appeared to be manufactured to great quality. The scope mounts where kind of cheese.
I was not concerned about the scope mounts. I bought a picatinny flash light adaptor and mounted it on my AR15 forearm with a red dot sight. Mounted on the weapon added no un-cumbersome weight and felt nice. Since I didn’t want to deal with wires I went with the toggle switch on the rear end, a simple push on/off easy accessible for my thumb.
I took the light out on Friday night. I was a little worried the full moon would affect the range.
All I can say is WOW! This thing is really cool. I was able to see my feeder @ 200 yds.
I did manage to spot light a deer and it didn’t seem to mind until it looked directly at me before she bolted. This was with the green led. In fact nothing seemed to be bothered by it if I kept the eyes in the Halo.
I then mounted on a scoped weapon. Through my 14X power Nikon I was impressed! It looked even better then my junky expensive Gen1 night vision scope.
I used it to scan CRP fields and was able to spot eyes over 200+yds.
I didn’t have a chance to switch between the different LED colors the “Pro-Pack” came with. The green suited me just fine!
I give it 2 thumbs up! It was a very cool toy to play with! And a most have for night time varmint hunters.
