Long range scopes

I will post this under deer hunting since there is already a thread going here about long range shots. When on vacation this past summer, my son and I went into the Best of the West storefront in Cody, Wyoming. We both looked through the Huskemaw scope that they are pushing on the show. Both of us were very impressed with the clarity and quality of this scope, not to mention the customization to your particular rifle. I shoot with a Zeiss Conquest 3-12x56 and my son shoots with a Meopta 4-16x44, and both of us agreed that we would like to give the Huskemaw a try on our next scope purchase. Has anyone on here used this scope or had any experience?

I liked the 20x zoom on it. I find that with my 12x I really wish for more magnification on shots past 250 yards or so. I am not so sure I will ever feel confident to take the 700 yard shots that they do on the show, but it would be really nice when sitting in a box blind on a powerline to know that a buck at 400 yards is well within range.

i have heard nothing but great stuff on the huskemaw. only two things i have heard negative about it is that ist imported from japan or some place and its kinda heavy ( not really negative i guess). if your considering the long rangs scope with dials, check out greybullprecision.com

that the original guy from best of the west...john burns. price wise i think they are close. greybull uses a leupold thats custom built for them. same operation as the huskemaw.

i shoot a 7mm mag with the bergers and a luepy 4.5-14x50 vx111. not to get into the other thread debate, but my last doe shot a couple weeks ago was at 649 by the range finder. i use kenton drop knobs on my scope. just my .02

What kind of range finder are you using to get range distances like that? I have a $200-300 Nikon or Bushnell that I can't get to work much past 300 yards. It's almost useless unless you are using it for bowhunting.

nikon monarch 800? its a nikon 800 something i know that much for sure. i think i am about to have to step up to a leica or something though.

the Bushnell fusion is an excellent range finding binocular and will easily tag targets out to 1K.

When I bought the range finder a few years ago, it was before I discovered the difference in quality optics and cheap optics. Rarely do you find both in the same package. I am sure it is just because I have an inexpensive model that is not designed for longer ranges.

I use a Nikon riflehunter 550. It's ranged things out to 667 yards, but I've used it to range 400 yards, then I hit my target. The scope was a Leupold Mark 4 10x40


In the evening I can't see what I'm trying to range very well w/ the Nikon, then I look though the Leupold and it's bright as day.

With that kind of money you would be better served with a Nightforce. The Davidsons brothers have left the BOTW and started a new company. They also teamed up with Nightforce and have rebadged the 5.5x22 under I believe G7 optics name.

If you really want to talk scopes, there is only 2 words worth mentioning.........

I have had all kinds of inexpensive(not cheep) and expensive scopes and none can even touch a S&B.

In not just talk'n clarity, but mechanical function, finish and toughness.

you never want to kick over a 3K dollar scope but when it happens you want to know you can dust it off and crank a round off at a grand and be right on target.

this may be worth looking into. NF is top shelf stuff too.

Swaro 3.5X18X44, super optics, compact size.

between 6X and 5X its a 1000 USD difference,,,, go with the 5X, 1X extra aint worth 1000 USD.

I bought it at 1.5K,,, Love the 4 Reticle.

I just checked the range finder...it's a Bushnell Yardagepro 450. It looks like I got exactly what I paid for. I like all of the scopes that everyone has mentioned. It is amazing the difference it makes having good glass on top of your rifle.

i looked at mine too. nikon laser 800. i dunno how i got monarch in there...thats a scope model...

Anyone heard anything about the Bushnell Elite 4200 6x24x50?

I use to think that Leupold was the only good scope made, since they were all USA made and had lifetime warranties.
But now that I've hunted a season with a good Nikon that worked perfectly I think there may be room at the top for more then just one good scope.The Swars and maws are rich peoples glass,
You can afford the Beamer, I'll keep the GMC.

I got a Vortex Viper on sale for $219. Great scope. Lifetime no questions asked warranty. Toolless target knobs. Side focus. And you can custom order target knob for your loads.

I'm running Zeiss 4.5-14's on most of my big game rifles. I really like the 4.5-14-50mm mildot that's on my .280.

Anyone have experience with Sightron SIII 3.5-10x44 scope?

The Fusion is the best rangefinder out there. I have not seen another that would lase a deer target at 1500 yards until I used the Fusion. And unlike most rangefinders it has a great set of bino's in it. It's hard to shoot long if you don't know how far it really is.

I've got that scope on my .308 and installed one on my bud's .243. It is the cat's meow!

I was seriously considering a Night Force F1 and the only feature the Bushnell didn't have was zero stop. It was also half the price of the NF. I've dialed mine up and down many times and it has performed flawlessly.
