.327 Federal Magnum - 12/15/09 01:49 AM

I bought a Taurus M327 in .327 Federal Magnum. I was wondering can I shoot 32 Auto.

I doubt it, 32 ACP does not have the rim. If it was recommended you would still need a moon clip.

BTW congrats I want a .327 mag bad.

I have some Remington express pistol & revolver ammo that I had in the gun safe. I think it does have the rim

I hope the cartridge stays around, I'd like to have it in the SP-101, but don't want to buy it if ammo won't be commercially available.

I wouldn't shoot the 32 ACP in it. The bullet diameter of the ACP is .309 while the 327 is .312. Confusing I know, since none of them are technically 32 caliber, but then again the 44 is not actually a .44, a .38 is not a .38, and the newfangled 460 S&W would blow up if you tried to stuff a .46 caliber bullet down its tube. Basically the result is that you would not get a good seal in the bore and accuracy would suffer terribly. Plus I can't imagine that .32 ACP is any cheaper than .32 S&W or .32 S&W Long, which both use the same diameter bullet as the 327 (ballistically the same relationship as the 38 Spl and 357 Magnum).

Clear as mud?

According to Chuck Hawks, "Any .327 Mag. revolver can also fire .32 H&R Mag. and .32 S&W Long cartridges, much as any .22 Long Rifle revolver can also fire .22 Long and .22 Short cartridges. The reverse, of course, is not true. A .327 Mag. revolver could also safely fire .32 S&W (short) cartridges, although why one would want to do so is another matter".

I read that earlier today, Thats why I thought I would ask, Because it does not say anything about auto ammo. The box of Remington ammo says express pistol & revolver.

There are revolvers out there that shoot 32ACP, so the box is technically accurate. I have an 1895 Nagant Revolver with a 32ACP cylinder and it is a fun little gun.
