$60 to $69 per pound!!

I'm seeing powder going for $60 to $69 per pound (retail) on some Alliant powders now. That's insane!!! My dealer cost isn't that high, but it's not far off. That's nuts!!

Everybody said not to buy when powder was in the high 40's, that it would go down lol. I bought a three year supply then before it all was non existent for a while.

Dang. So about how much should i get to load a thousand rounds of .308

Does powder have a shelf-life?

Asking for the uninformed (me). I assume storage conditions (temperature and moisture) play a part as well?

If stored properly, years!



There are 7000 grains in a pound. If your powder charge was 45 grains, you would need 6.42 lbs of powder for 1000 rounds of 308.



I never thought powder would go down. But I didn't think it would be going up this much this quickly.

I remember about year 2 or 3 of reloading for me, I had just gotten through my first 2 lbs of varget and a pound of reloader 15. after determining that all the skuttle-butt about varget in 308 was true, i decided to get my first 8lb jug.it was right around $300 to get it shipped to my doorstep. Now the price online shows almost $400 beofre tax, shipping and hazmat fee. It's nuts.

A couple weeks ago, I bought an 8lb jug of 300MP for $129!

Happily, I think I’m good. I’ve given up on R17, so don’t care what the price is now.

Chad, you need to find us some more bulk powder. I am almost out of the WC-846S. Its become my .308 and .223 powder! 20 pounds did not last as long as I thought it would.

So I just need to find me about an 8 pound jug of W748 and I will be ok. I know it’s not everyone’s first choice but from I read, one of the better powders for short barrels or for .358 winchester. Well I am building a 16” .358 winchester so it should be decent.

So that and maybe one of the top three powders for the ‘06 or .308. Man I don’t even know. I think I am gonna go ahead and order a couple of handbooks.

Chad, you've been very generous in previous powder offerings. If you do it again for wc846, varget, h4350 or anything really that you like then you can for sure count me in.

I had a keg of surplus h4895 that was twice my age when I bought it. It took me 15 years to use it up and shot the same from beginning to end.

Gunpowder is like gasoline. I don't care what it cost all I care about is being able to buy it.

Try TAC, for your 308. Natchez has it at about 33 a pound. Just got 3 pounds about 2 weeks ago.

old man gave my a 12 lb keg of unique lot no 5, I loaded thousands of 28 ga shells. with it never a problem lots of straights to, that powder had to be 50 yrs old. People are still shooting ww2 ammo with no problems

I bought an 8lb container of Reloder 16 about a month ago and it was the most I have ever paid (about 450.00) and from what I heard folks saying that were at SHOT….get ready.

I have already started working on switching just like I did with H4350 when it was hard to get. All the Alliant made in Sweden has gone thru the roof on price.

Long time before prices on anything drop. Biden and a complicit Congress have looted the economy with the “build back better” BS. Bottom line is that the $ isn’t worth what it once was and things won’t change soon.
