Slug Question - 05/24/09 10:44 PM

I have never used slugs in a shotgun so need advice. I have a smoothbore 12 gauge Benelli. Any recommendations on slugs? I have seen posts about guys using rifled choke tubes. Are they effective? Any guidance will be appreciated.

Friend of mine uses these Hornady's. He loves them but I haved no idea about using them in a smooth barrel.

Smoothbore shotgun uses Foster slugs.

Rifled barrels use Saboted slug/bullets.

Re: Slug Question - 05/30/09 03:12 AM

I just bought a couple of rifled barrels and I can't find sabot slugs anywhere local.
A friend of mine gave me 3 boxes of sabots that he bought from a gun show and he said that's the best place to buy them.
?????????????????????????????????????

I know nothing about slugs so I have no idea why I need them around here!!
But the guns came with the extra barrels.

Cabelas has a pretty good selection. I hunt with them quite a bit up in Iowa each year. I had been using the Winchester Supreme Silver Sabot's, but after spending $4.00 per shot i switched to the Hornady SST's last year. They shoot better groups but did not expand as well on BIG deer, so they are now AWSOME hog slugs and I switched back to the Winchester for deer.
