25-06. Load data

25-06. Load data - 12/23/13 07:41 PM

Got a Remington 700 with a 24 inch barrel (25-06) and was looking for some good reloading information. Was interested mainly in sierra bullets for hunting white tail. Typical shot between 50 to 250 yards. Was considering game king or pro hunters but would like some comments. Also, anyone interested in trading some 308 brass for 25-06 or 7-08 send me a pm
Thanks

I use the Sierra 117 grain game kings with IMR 4350 at 48.3 grains.
Been very happy with accuracy and performance.

IMR4831 47.5 gr 120gr Speer. Used since '80, accuracy is great in my HB Rem 700.

110 accubond with imr 4831, 117 gameking with imr 4831, and 120 partition with retumbo have all shot and preformed very well out of 3 different 25-06s. I have also had good luck on varmints with 87gr varminteers and varget.

Seems like game kings are a popular choice. Does anyone have the velocity of the rounds and also what about pro hunters?
Thanks for all the replys

I purchased a box of federal game king 117gr just to have fun shooting and get it sighted in and maybe get couple days hunting in before season ends in sc end of this month. Also I will get the brass from these. Anyone know anyone that has 25-06 brass and 7-08 brass?

Try 100 gr Barnes TTSX and RL 22. Use their data and start 2 gr off max and work up your loads in .05 gr increments. We got same hole groups with my buddies Sendero and over 3300 FPS. They will shoot thru a whitetail nose to tail!

The box of shells you bought have killed a ton of animals.

110 gr Accubonds with IMR 4831 works awesome.

I shoot a Custom Mauser 25-06
with a 24 inch Douglas as do my brother and son.. All of our guns shoot sub MOA with 51.5-52 grains of 4831.. I have loaded 4350 as well and it also shot good. The 117 is deadly on deer and hogs with my longest shot on a deer at a little over 300

I am in the process of developing a hunting load for a brand new Marlin XL7 rifle with a 22" barrel. So far, these two loads have shown good groupings at 100 yards:

- CCI #200 primer, IMR-4831 49.6gr, Nosler Partition 115gr, Federal brass ... average velocity 2896 fps

- CCI #200 primer, IMR-4831 51.6gr, Nosler Partition 115gr, Remington brass ... average velocity 3034 fps

Should I get h4831 or h4831sc or does it matter? I know the sc is for short cut but why? What are the used for that could be different

H4831SC will pack a little tighter and that's the only difference. If you're not anywhere near a full case, go with plain-Jane H4831. But if you're throwing charges with a powder measure, the SC version would work a little better for you. I wouldn't use a measure for either, myself.

If you read back most everyone said to use IMR 4831,it groups better in my gun than H 4831,but yours may be different,I would shoot which ever groups the best.

Those federal's you bought will shoot under a half inch at 100 yards in my cooper. I like the game kings but I found 2 boxes of the pro hunters today at the local gun store so we will see how they do.

Looks like you need to talk to this guy on the brass.

4831 is a good choice. However I like 117 grain hornandy sst with 56.1 grains of RL 22 powder super accurate and deadly. Norma mrp is the twin to RL 22.
