.308 Low recoil rounds

Need some opinions here. Have a good friend who has a 13 yr old girl. He is a .308 shooter. Not sure whether daughter will really get into shooting/hunting. Instead of just buying a .243 that he may end up just having to ditch, I thought of low recoil rounds for his 308. Anybody have an opinion on these. Realize they wont be perfect. Likely no shots past 100-150 yds. Deer-Hogs ?? Thanks

Would have to be factory. Neither of us reloads

They work well for what you are looking for. I have a 8yo nephew that shoots them with no issues. I prefer the federal but remington makes a 125 grain as well.

308 reduced recoil is easy. I can load up 125 to 130 grain bullets at 2400-2500 fps. It's more powerful than a 300 black out, and I've been taking all kinds of stuff with a black out.

Could you just load some 100-110 grain barnes? Wouldn't that essentially be a 243 with a 30 cal bullet?

Sure. A 110 Barnes black Tipped would be awesome!

To reduce recoil, you need to do 2 things- Reduce bullet weight and reduce velocity.

I have had good results with 110 grain prohunters out of a 270 win at approx. 2600 fps using H-4895.

I know you can find a load similar for a 308 as well.

If you are that concerned. Get her to the range and spend some time with good ear protection, well bagged and don't sell her short. My buddy did the same thing last week with his wife. Trying to give her his 22-250 instead of his 25-06, put her on a bench and she shot 2" groups @ 200 yds with the 25. Don

Sierra 125 gr fnhp pro hunter, it's a 30-30 bullet (bullet number 2020)
H4895 37gr of powder
Overall length of 2.41
Velocity is 2200 ft/sec out of 18.5 inch barrel, if you barrel is longer you could likely use 35 to 36 gr of powder,

I like this bullet because the fnhp you can slow down and get great expansion.
The recoil is extremely mild, even much less then a 243

Btw forgot to mention the trajectory he is using
Zeroed at 100 yards (this is around the longest shoot we have hunting)
0- -1.5
50- 0.3
100- 0
150- -3.3

H4895 is good for reduced power loads. Take the max charge for any bullet weight x 60% to get the min load. This is what the ballistics tech at Hodgdon told me a few years ago.
