Hats off to Walmart.

Hats off to Walmart. - 10/14/13 07:41 PM

I went into the Walmart in McKinney yesterday and was looking around by the sporting goods counter and was somewhat surprised to see quite a bit of ammo back on the shelves as I hadn't looked for a few months.

What I didn't see was any 22LR.

I asked the guy working the counter if they had any 22LR and he said no, none on the shelf but politely said there was some coming in today on the truck.
Told him Ok, thanks I'll come back some other time.

He said hold one minute and disappeared, went to the storage area and produced a case of Winchester bulk 1000 rounders.
He asked if I'd like 2 1000 round boxes and I said no 1 is more than enough.

Kinda nice to see great customer service isn't gone completely from here in Texas and especially at Walmart.

Academy has tons of .22lr in 50rd boxes almost all brands. They wont sell it in bricks anymore if the manufacturer packs it in the 50rd boxes inside a larger box. It isnt kept with the other ammo either. It is in a separate display with a person assigned to hand it out. No more than 2 boxes per customer per day. Im sure they make a little extra selling it that way, and it keeps their stock up so they can say they have it.

Walmart has had .22lr every time ive been in lately in the morning. 3 box limit still, but that can be 3 bricks. I dont go there at 630am either, so im sure they are getting plenty if I can still get some by 11am.

Its getting better. Slowly.

I'm not having a problem finding anything at Walmart during the mornings. I stopped by Thursday and bought some 158gr JHP .357 mag for me and two boxes of (100) .38 special +P HP's for my wife. The day before I got two (100) round packs of 9mm fmj.

My daughter came by with 3 of of my Grandkids this morning, so we headed down to Walmart and bought six boxes of Federal Auto Match .22lr in (325) round boxes. They had cases of it, so I bought 3 boxes and my son in law bought his 3.

In my local store, you have too go in the morning for a good selection. Only the larger bulk packs are left by lunch time. By the end of the day, the popular stuff is gone.

I was eying the stack of 1,000 round bulk boxes of Federal 5.56 62gr green tip this morning. Just might grab a couple of those in the morning at $.44 per round - bit the Federal .223 55gr. at $.34/round is attractive......

What prices are you guys seeing for the bricks (for those that have found them)?

Pricing at my Walmart from the last 10 days:

The Federal Auto Match .22lr was $18.95. for (325) rounds.
The standard Federal copper jacketed hollow points were $25. for (555)
CCI Tactical (375) round boxes were about $23. if I recall correctly. CCI Stingers were $3.25 for the plastic box of 50. I didn't buy any CCI Mini Mag's so I don't remember the pricing.

Haven't seen any big bulk boxes of 22lr, only in 5.56. .223 and 9mm. Federal 5.56/62gr is running around $.44 per round, and the Federal .223/556gr is $.35 per round.
