No returns at Academy...

No returns at Academy... - 06/02/13 12:33 PM

DUH!!! I bought a couple boxes of ammo at Academy yesterday and the cashier tells me, "Remember there are no returns on ammo." So i just have to ask, "Do people actually try and return ammo? That seems pretty stupid considering the danger bad ammo can have and who knows what someone could have done to it."

Well to all those people in San Angelo that bought ammo to calibers you don't have, I have to believe that it is you who is trying to return your ammo now that it's coming back, and you can't charge somebody double. I hope you are stuck with that ammo forever.

Yes, there ARE people who try to return ammo! I even saw a guy who got mad when Academy wouldn't let him return a partial box of .357 ammo. He said that it did not shoot accurately in his gun, and he wanted to return it!

I agree, I hope all the gougers that bought ammo for resale have to EAT it!

I can't imagine anyone trying to return ammo. But some moron who doesn't know what he's doing is going to try.

They will take some back. Buddy bought the wolf or tula 243, and it actually would not chamber in his rifle. The neck angle was off from other factory ammo. They took it back because it is boxed for them, or at least that is what the cashier said.

I do agree about the hoarders, and I hope retail prices actually drop and those foolks that have bought up ammo they dont need actually lose money when they sell it.

It's probably the Monarch that he had. Anything monarch can be returned if there is an issue. Same with Yildiz firearms. They are "Academy Brands" in a sense.

Academy has been saying this for years. It has nothing to do with any of the bs going on now.

...and choke on it!

Friday at Academy I watched a guy & his wife check the list for limits and then bought every box of Monark .357 that was on the shelf and several boxes of 30-30.

I can't say what the guy standing next to me said, but he and I both had a real good laugh. We both had been on one of the fishing aisles, had a stack of fishing lures and had walked down the ammo aisle just to see just what calibers were coming back when this happened.

Not taking returns on AMMO is a good policy IMO. In his crazy world imagine if someone wanting o do harm simply pulled a bullet or two in a box and replaced he slow burning powder with a fast burning shotgun powder, or did a double charge in pistol rounds?

If not law it is a good CYA policy for businesses.

Then you have the ones that buy the 9×18 mocarov for their glocks..and the 308MARLIN for an AR10....the 357sig for their revolvers...and 45LC for a 1911.
Before the craze I ran into a guy that bought a few boxes of 45gap for his 1911. He had few reliability issues.

Re: No returns at Academy... - 06/03/13 08:58 PM

yes, Cabelas has same policy too. but I did return a case ammo once. that is because cabelas put 154gr SP label onto the case has 123gr HP. And they sealed the case, I open it while I am home and make me drive 35 miles to get it return and buy the other case. on the second time, I let store open the case for me. just want make sure they put the right label on the case.

But the first word from the service desk was 'No return on the AMMO" while I in the store.

I guess, you could return your ammo if there has something wrong. I mean they made mistake or the factory recalls.

Aww gee, these cases are made of brass and not gold. Nobody wants them. I want my money back.

Buyers remorse is a b-yatch.

I have a friend who is not a real "gun guy". He went to Academy and asked for some .45, which they promptly sold him. He now has a box of 45 LC for his .45 ACP. Speaking of which if you want a box of 45 LC Winchester personal defense ammo he will make a good deal, HA, but seriously.

Re: No returns at Academy... - 06/03/13 09:26 PM

I returned some to a local shop one time. Wife was trying to buy me 22 WRF for my model 90 for Christmas, I told her exactly what to ask for and the yahoo at the store (not Academy) still sold her 22 Mag. Then the guy had the audacity to argue with me and tell me that it would work when I went to take it back. I called the owner of the shop the next day and he ordered me a case of the correct ammo.

YEP!....

And I can see some jerk buying 1,000rnds, shooting it and then reloading with no powder and returning for a refund.

I actually heard about that happening to a shop in Houston. It made the Gunwire blog.

Last fall I bought a case of 20 gauge shells at Bass Pro by mistake. the 12's and 20's were in one big stack in the middle of the aisle. I brought it back and had never thought about any of the shenanigans that could happen with returned ammo. The case box hadn't been opened and they swapped me out. I learned to be more careful now.

Re: No returns at Academy... - 06/16/13 05:02 PM

We've had people here selling their ammo because they have bought the wrong ammo there. With them asking it kinda makes you took a double look at the ammo you are purchasing.

Luckily even if I did buy the wrong ammo, I would have something that would shoot it and if not what a brilliant excuse to add to the collection.

Re: No returns at Academy... - 06/17/13 09:02 PM

most place I know don't allow the return of ammo. I did have one box I did get to return because when I got home I saw that they gave me the wrong caliber. I was a regular customer and We just traded it out for the right caliber.

Re: No returns at Academy... - 06/19/13 03:13 PM

I bought a case of Remington shotgun shells at Cabela's in Allen last year. It was sealed so I didn't inspect the contents until my first visit to the range. In the first two boxes all of the shells were OK until I got to the bottom of the box; then there was rust corrosion on the metal. I checked all the other boxes in the case and they were exactly the same. The outside of the case had no visible water damage but it sure seemed like it had sat in some liquid.

Despite everyone telling me that there were no returns on ammo Cabela's took the case back and gave me a refund. And they told me that there would be no problem opening and inspecting a case before making a purchase. So I went onto the floor and looked at two more cases of the same ammo and they also had the corrosion problem.

A few months later I was buying a case of Estate shells and the cashier told me that I shouldn't have opened the case. I told her my story and said "your choice: either I open the case to inspect it or I do my shopping elsewhere." So far, that seems to work with the cashiers.

Women try bikinis on at Walmart all the time but don't buy them. Tell your wife/girlfriend that next time she's slipping into the bikini bottom. (Rare SpongeBob reference)

Ugggggg. Your wife has been tainted by that chick collecting crabs...

There was some idiot in line behind me last week that threw a fit because they wouldn't sell him 10 boxes of .223
