Factory crimping dies

Do u use them or not in loading rifle ammo

I use them for Lever action loads.

.30-30 is some damn thin brass. Hard to crimp. Factory crimp dies work wonders.

I also found applying the proper roll crimp to .30-30 brass to be very touchy. This is one case where the Lee FCD is useful. I've used one for .223 ammo and found no benefit where accuracy is concerned, but it didn't seem to hurt anything either. When I finally decide on a load for my AR, I might go ahead and use it since semi-autos tend not to finesse the cartridges into the chamber.

No crimp on bolt action ammo.

Measure a O.D. of a loaded cartridge, at the neck, subtract .002" to .003" and use a bushing style full length die with a bushing measuring what you subtracted. Results in proper and consistant neck tension without crimping. And in precision rifle ammo, consistancy is the name of the game.

Depends on the rifle and caliber. Any lever action or revolver ammo needs a crimp. Anything bolt action is no crimp. If it's an AR, it may or may not need a crimp. Most does not get a crimp.

Does the cannelure bullet cause any problems. I would guess you put a very light crimp on canelure also?

As far as I can tell, the cannelure only helps to show where to put the crimp. It doesn't seem to make it any easier to get a good crimp. YMMV!

But just because there's a cannelure doen't mean you have to crimp.

I thought thats all the cannelure did.

But in my line of shooting, it just made a slippery bullet a little sticky. No go for me.

I put a light factory crimp on ALL my semi auto loads.

I know why Semis are not roll crimped but why do you say revolvers need a crimp? Not every revolver is hot magnum.

I use Lee Fact Crimp die on my 223 ammo for the AR. Nothing else.

I put a very light crimp on my .223 for my AR. Before, I used no crimp. Noticed that my groups were just slightly tighter.
