7.62 x 54R - 06/20/12 06:52 AM

I have some questions.

Is this a good place to get ammo.

Would you get the 300 round can with stripper clips or the 440 can without clips.

Russian or Bulgarian

Are there any local places to buy in bulk?

I'm a shotgunner and this is my first military rifle.

Thanks!

I would go with the 440 can and then just get me a handfull of stripper clips off of EBAY unless this is SHTF storage ammo then go with the can with stripper clips. have you checked with Archie at Buffulo sport and goods or Able Ammo in Huntsville? they may have some. be sure to clean the rifle soon after shooting it because it is corrosive ammo.

You can also get brass cased boxer primed PPU and S&B ammo at Cabelas for about 12.00 a box and then reload whatever you want.

I'm waiting for my dies to come in right now.

I would go with the ammo on clips if you really, really want them. FWIW, M\N's don't feed real well from factory clips and the aftermarket clips are worse. If you're interested, I've got some non-corrosive ammo that I'd be willing to sell or trade.
Funny story for ya: right after I got my first M\N, I found some original stripper clips and got them all loaded up correctly and went out for a little Enemy At The Gates action. I busted off the first 5 rds., shoved the next clip-full in and went back to shooting. A couple of more shots and I noticed my hand was getting sweaty and it was hard to hang onto the stock. When I went to wipe my hand, I realized it wasn't sweat but blood pouring out of the nice little 1\2" gash in the side of my right thumb. I was kinda bumfuzzled as to how I did it until that night when I was reloading the stripper clips and found the burr along the edge of one complete with a strip of skin...grin

Post what you get OP and how it shoots.

That Bulgarian looks pretty good. I may try some of what Vern1 posted as well.

Finally found some brass for sale...

Closely inspect ALL milsurp 7.62x54r you find..I was finding a lot of the Yugo 147 gr. FMJ brass/berdan and steel cased stuff with split necks. Look close before you go to shoot it.
