300 Blackout- what weight bullet would you like?

300 Blackout- what weight bullet would you like? - 05/09/12 04:02 PM

So far, the most common weight bullets in the 300 BLK OUT are the 110 V-max, 125 Nosler BT, and the 208 A-max (subsonic). If you could have another bullet weight, what weight and type of bullet would it be? 130, 150, 175, 180 grain??? Plastic tip, BTSP, SP, BTHP?

Here's some velocities that they would run-

110 V-max - 2370 fps (confirmed)
125 Nosler BT - 2150 (confirmed)
150 Soft Point - 2000 fps (estimated)
155 A-max - 1950 fps (estimated)
168 BTSP - 1800 fps (estimated)
178 A-max/BTHP - 1750 fps (estimated)

Tell me what you think and what you would use them for (hunting, plinking, varmint, defense, etc.)?

110 grain Barnes blacktip running 2370 would be great! Awesome for thumping hogs.

I would have to agree with the black tip barnes!

I like the 110 v Max, but I shoot mostly 125gr SP @ 2100 for pig hunting! Working up a load for my 247gr lead "Bison bullets" at
1050 fps for suppressed hunting.

125 NBT or the Barnes

How does the SP feed in your AR? I would think they would feed fine. I'm am about to start testing some 110 grain lead SP bullets to be less expensive than the 110 V-max.

Once I finish my blackout, I'll be interested in those barnes black tips as well.

125 gr SP's feed fine in mine. Gonna have to order through you next time I need more ammo. You seem to have the whole spectrum covered on the blackout, ammo isn't readily available at retail stores that I've found. It's for hunting purposes mostly hogs but want to how it performs on a whitetail too.

Thank you! I am asking to see if there is anything else shooters would like to see offered. I will be adding 110 grain Barnes Black Tip, 110 grain SP, 130 grain SP, and 240 grain Sierra Matchking for subsonic.

Any other bullet requests?

What kind of velocity do you think I would see from an 8" barrel suppressed with a 168 & 178 grain A-Max?

What would be the best choice for shooting deer and/or pigs at 100 yards and under with this setup?

I like the 125 BT for pigs and the 110's for deer. The 168 and 178, I would have to test and run the numbers for them. I wouldn't recommend them, because you can not get them fast enough to expand.

You may run into problems with SP ammo.
You may have to run them short to get them to feed and not put dinks in the SP from hitting the lugs on barrel extension.
I had good luck with the 110 Hornady SPs but had to run them between 1.90 and 1.95 to clear the ramps and lugs.
If the tips hit and get small dents, the groups will open up considerably.

Eventually moved on to 6.8x43 for serious thump and added range.

I was wondering how the A-Max round would expand. Being a target round I would have thought the jacket would be rather thin.

Do the Nosler ballistic tips hold together well? I've had problems with them coming apart badly in my 260 Remington at 2800 fps.

How would we go about ordering some ammo from you?

Re: 300 Blackout- what weight bullet would you like? - 11/24/12 01:23 PM

Sorry, I didn't see your post. The lightest amax is the 155. At that weight and the speed the blk out would shoot them, I don't know if they would expand enough. I'll load some and shoot a doe with it and see how it does.
Target bullets typically have a thicker jacket than a non target bullet.

Guys, where can I find some 300 Soft Points?

I'm currently using Barnes Blacktips but would like to try out some SPs.

What weight bullet do you want? I can get a 110, 125, 130, and 150 grain SP.

Prefer the 110s if they have the same velocity as the 110 Barnes Blacktips.

Yes, I have those in stock actually (the bullets, not loaded ammo). Give me a call or an email and I can get these loaded up for you. They will run right at 2350 to 2370 fps in a 16" barrel.

No 220's for subsonic?

I offer the 225 Hornady BTHP as a subsonic. It's similar to the 220 SMK, and A LOT less expensive.
