Reloading hunting pistol question - 04/14/12 06:04 PM
Hey guys. So I loaded up a batch of hornady XTPs for hunting pigs with my 44 mag super Blackhawk with a scope. My question is how far to test a load in hunting style pistol to test accuracy? 15, 25,50 yards? What say you?

With the 44Mag I hunt with tested it at 50 and 100 yards. With the 7-30 Waters 50, 100 and 200 yards.

I'd work at 50 yards, at least, with a scoped handgun. I might go out to 100 if I thought I was pretty good.

Iron sights I test at 25, scoped at 50.

kmon has it pegged dead on the money in my opinion. BUT,, here is my other thought..
Honestly I will shoot at a pig as far as I think my bullet will travel just to see if I can hit the terd.
So ifn it were me I would be ringing plates with that sucker out to 300.
Why? just cuz I may want to fling lead at one that far someday and I am going to want to know how many piggies high I gotta hold.

Fact is I know I'm not that good! 50 it is!
