Nosler Accubond (150 gr) Feedback for a 308 - 12/26/11 10:19 PM

This year I had to hunt with 165 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip (long story but it worked out ok - lets just say Cabelas failed to tighten rings on scope and by time I got it all straightened out at range (day before opening morning) I had one 150gr Nosler Accubond bullet left so had to zero in with the extra box of 165gr BTs).

So next year i will be hunting with the 150 grain Nosler Accubonds because my gun seemed to REALLY like them (I have a very finicky gun and have been searching for the magic bullet. Have shot Federal, Black Hil, Winchester, Hornady etc.). So now that I have found the bullet....

What success have you had or herad of with the Nosler Accubond on deer, etc. Thanks.

I never tried them in my .308. I've always thought of them as more of a magnum bullet that opened better at higher velocity. Chances are I'm wrong though, I'm a total newb at reloading.

It is my understanding that that they are one of the best on the market for expansion, penetration, and weight retention. That makes it an excellent hunting round second only to some of the Barnes ttsx bullets. They tend to be very expensive even for the reloader but they do expand and penetrate even at lower velocities. That's the weakest link for the Barnes bullets.

I only know of one person using them currently. He shot a doe in the chest and recovered the bullet between the butt and hide. I actually saw this bullet. It mushroomed perfectly and was put on the scales to show 90% weight retention. This is the only one he has recovered with all others being pass throughs with good exit wounds.

I shoot 140 gr Accubonds out of my 280 and wouldn't change for anything. Critters that I've shot with them have all hit the dirt like they were struck by lightning with the exception of one doe. I shot her behind the shoulder,in the lungs and she went about 60 yards before tipping over. The exit wound on her was bigger than a baseball and how he went as far as she did is beyond me. I didn't have to worry about getting much blood on me when I field dressed her because she didn't have any left. Ray Charles could have followed the blood trail. confused2

I used the 165's in my .30-06 last year and was plesently pleased. I had a end to end pass through on a pig from about 80yrds out, then shot a large WT buck (feild dreeseed 152) perfect behind the shoulder with slight quatering disintegrated lungs and heart and broke opposing shoulder on exit, DRT.

I know the nosler custom ammo in a TC Icon, Ruger ultra light, Kimber and Springfield M1A the 165gr accubond loading has shot verywell for me. Interesting the 165gr Remington loaded with swift siroccos has same point for sightin. Matter of fact I have shot sub 3/4 inch groups mixing those two factory loads in the Icon kimber and ruger. As far performance on game. None recovered from hog whitail or axis. All DRT or short enough runs that watched them fall

Been using the 160gr AB's in my 280 ackley, and they are death. if the animals runs, it isn't far, and it's only cause they don't know they're dead yet.

Got me some 140's to run through the 280, also gonna see if my 708 likes them. I know I'm sold.

I agree and Shoot them out of my .270 and I think the 140gr accubond is the best bullet for the .270win.

I load 140gr BTSP Hornady interlocks for target and hogs and use the same powder charge for the Accubonds and they shoot to the same point of aim.
