Either will work, but I'd go with the 158. Shot my first deer with a SKS when I was 9.

Used an SKS hunting deer in early 90s a little. Wasn't really impressed with the penetration of the 123 gr Winchester SP factory loads that I hunted with for a few deer. I would try the 158s if I were to try it again

Both have performed well for me on 75-150lb hogs, but my Yugo SKS is about 3x more accurate with Herter's 154gr SP than it is with any 12x grain ammo that I've tried.
