welcome ta the muzzy world. tis like the flint lock on here. ya here the K, then the k-boom rofl tis the first place checked out little over 2years ago. think first post was bout mussleloader. learned quick ta let experts. i'm postaddic like it says below posts. got the .45 Kentucky here .44 revolver & New Orleens Ace or Special confused2 Force powder mostly, have tried Pherex, back in 70's supose ta be cleaner, went back ta the Goex. its bout well older than dirt, still took hog with .45 few years back with it. tis hard ta find on stores, checked couple of big ones, they getting rid of supplies. got some Tripple Se7en its a supplement, finaly found it again, cleaner burning can get more shots before cleaning. their should be some people posting later that have rifle or experience with it than me. worken on load for my guns trillion & air, with the Ace started with lighter charge powder. tis difference obetween in-line & the side locks, scratch so best wishes stay safe keep your head held high & your powder dry flag

You need to decide if you want to shoot pellets or loose powder. And "best" is always subjective.

If you go with loose powder the Blackhorn 209 is very good and gets great reviews. If you want to go with the pellets I would recommend the White Hots (which I use) or the Triple 7.

Good luck

What you shoot also depends on where you want to hunt. IE Colorado requires loose powder only, so you cant use pellets there. Its because of stupid things like that, I use blackhorn 209 in all my smokepoles.

I have always shot loose Pyrodex with great success.

I have yet to shoot a powder through my smoke pole that didn't shoot and hit the target. I clean mine after about 12 shots....warm soapy water, then lube it and then wipe it clean. Go out and shoot one shot through it before hunting with it (black powder are notorious for shooting stray with clean barrel).
