are they all the same? already know differance in the powders & 209 caps vs 10 & 11.

Not really. You have traditional vs modern in-lines. I shoot both. I shoot a traditional CVA Hawken .50 cal and a modern in-line Remington Genesis .50 cal. About the same process to load a round.

One big difference you should be aware of is that just about all modern inlines have a 1:28" rate of twist designed primarily to shoot pistol bullets in plastic sabots, while the more traditional sidelocks will usually vary.

Some sidelocks, like Thompson Center Renegades and Hawkens, Lyman Deestalkers and Trade Rifles, and the Pedersoli Traditional Hawken sold by Cabalas, have a 1:48" twist rate which is useful for both round balls and full bore lead conicals like Maxi-Balls. Some traditional guns, like Lymans Great Plains models have a 1:60 or 1:66" twist rate for round balls only, or a 1:32" twist like Lyman's Great Plains Hunter model. Also, you can get replacement barrels with a 1:28" twist for Thompson Center sidelocks and shoot sabboted pistol bullets from those guns.

been shooting bp muzzle loader & pistal before heard of the inlines, 209 primmers. the powder is pretty close to same as cartrage rounds minnes the cartrage, why they have the 209 primmer, shot gun. twist just give it faster spin, I still enjoy the patch & ball, not near the acracy. had gotten different powder smokless for muzzle loaders, have to find can again 777 not the triple 7 if that makes sence and am a little hesident about amout ta put in. have ta find can. Got a New Orleans special neen doing some testing on dont want to mess up .45 rifles or .44 revolver. get back with ya whin find can . thanks

Colt45. If you are new to muzzle loading, no. The traditional side locks are about 70 yard range guns. Good if you want to bond with the past or pit your skill against the critter. If you are pure hunter and just want the best weapon- the modern in-line with a scope- it is one shot but with shockwaves ($3 a piece) or a similar bullet you ought to get 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards and have a real 150-200 yard rifle.

been shooting traditional since 70's, using GOEX powder, tried the PYRODEX, went back to GOEX. powder have is bout 20yrs old, still works, got hog with my kentufky .45 forgot to change measure spout om flask had on measure for my .44 revolver. any ways went ta buy new powder, couldnt find GOEX, they had 777 or tripple7 one is substatute for the GOEX, cant find the bottle, was trying ta figure how
much ta use, 60gr FFF GOEX vs 48gr PYRODEX just not sure what ta use for new powder I got, & powder measer are old & no markings. hate ta mess up rifles, or revolver. Lots of centamental value.

No they arent. I use a TC Triumph with blackhorn 209 (100grains by volume NOT WEIGHT. I actually weigh my charges but by volume its appr 100 gr) with Remington sts primers, gold speer dot 300 gr bullets with harvestor sabbots (the one ones that are i step thicker then the crushed rib (cant recall the number). Shoots less than 1/2" moa at 100 yds with this combo. took many a shots to find the right recipe but finally found it.

Nice thing about bh209 powder is you can shoot as many as twleve times without cleaning the barrel. the pellets which are water based require cleaning after every shot due to crud ring build up. just know more powder isnt always better. on BH209 do not use a water based cleaner or a solvent that has kerosene (eg - hoppes). use montana bh209 solvent or barnes cx.

Loading consistently is key as well as consistently cleaning and prepping barrel the same way each time for next shot. there is a method to the madness on cleaning these things as well. you would think i am nuts for my method but it works.

Volume vs weight as said can't find container for new powder, & if remember right it mentioned one or the other for usage. just cause in-line is loaded from muzzle, some people think it same as black powder muzzle loader, the differance is the nipple, 209, 11, & 10. got a powder scale some place, back whin reloading pistal, some place. have the .44 measure for postal, & measure for .45 rifle. with new powder, was trying ta figure load with out measure, am thinking less powder than the PYRODEX. maybe 45gr. or 40gr. thanks for help, do know the pellets ddont work to well in black powder muzzies spell check, pistol not postal

I just tried some Pryodex. In my mech loader set at 70 grains it was 55 gr by wgt. I had to go to 95 gr on brass measure to get 70 gr wgt. Had a part malfunction so now waiting to touch off. I still have a lb of PPP and may use the black powder as soon as I get this CVA LH Hawken back in working order.

volume is method bye flask what always done. Weight is scales more for reloading cartrage. last powder bought, they didn't have Goex, says can be used in muzzy, it is powder, not freeze dried, or what ever for the 209 in-line. can't find canister appoligize for all confussion.

I'm thinking about building another LH Hawken 54 cal. I built several about 30 yrs ago, but now am considering a kit like Lyman or Trail of Wolf ect. Any thoughts?

I thought about doing the same with a Kentucky rifle.....looks to be easy....problem I have is too many other things going on right now.

Why put one tagether thar be many looking for a good home, an alot of maintenance ta the muzzies. gonna try few light loads with new powder, didnt hurt the New Orleans Ace, not as much smoke, but can get extra round or two before cleaning. smaller measure of powder shouldn't hurt breach Thanks for advice from all. keep your head held high & your powder dry
