Got lucky

Got lucky - 12/08/23 09:00 PM

Everyone needs a little luck now and again. Couldn't take it and decided to draw on a good doe. She was close. Like 8 yards close.
My freezer is full. I've given away one so far. Shouldn't shootbany because they are all donations at this point.
But they came in late. They tempted me. And she stopped at 8 yards quartering away at 8 yards . . .
That's where it all went wrong.
A loud noise, an odd flying arrow and a bleeding doe.
She jumped and ran a few steps then, just tentatively walked off. I could see her leaking and watched her close as she paused in a thick spot about 40 yards north of me.
I watched her stand there a minute orbtwo. Then lay down. Now was the waiting game.
Went to close the window on the Krivoman and it wouldn't shut right then found out the loud noise was . . .

Back of one lung, liver and a lit gut but given the situation not a bad deal. I watched her bed down 40 yards out in the brush. I stoll waited an hour.

Another big girl kept tempting me. But I didn't want two blood trails to work.

Finally, after an hour, I got out and inspected the arrow.
I knee then she was dead and I was right not to get out too soon. Definitely liver blood.

But she was right where I saw her last. Hopefully tomorrow the big gal will show back up.

Hunt out of a blind long enough it will happen, good reminder to check for clearance. I have done the same in a blind but it led to a miss.

Congrats on the doe glad ti still made a good lethal hit.

Did she die in just an hour, or how long?

I a dually watched her go down in less than two minutes. But I had other deer around and it's always good advice to sit tight and give a questionable shot animal time.

Must be a great head to do all that and still kill deer from a trad bow. Sounds pretty nerve racking. But, meat in the freezer, i would be happy.
