Happens to the best of us - 09/25/23 12:41 AM

Been shooting my compound in preparation for an upcoming hunt. I rarely target shoot with it unless I’m getting ready for a specific trip, mainly stick with my recurves now, but it’s been years since I’ve slapped my forearm with the string.

Well, today I was finishing up a set and was on one of my last shots, I hit the trigger and man, that smarts’!

I've done it once after many beers.

OUCH

I have done that but cannot remember when, but remember it hurts.

near the end of the session, did you get a little lapse on form in the grip, grip a little tight or more of the heel of the hand more involved?

That is what I have seen with customers having an issue with that

I haven't done it since mathews invented the string stop. At least with a compound. Every now and then a longbow takes a swipe of hide . . .

I hadn't done that in a long long time and then Saturday it happened. I've been shooting my bow pretty regularly all year, and was at the end of my shoot. Was a bit fatgued and bam it happened.

The mark is dang near gone. Mine was not as bad as yours, but dang I know your pain.

Same exact bruise 2 days ago on my left arm. Like you, I was on my last shot and couldn't believe it happened with my compound. I just got done shooting my longbow so maybe my mind got confused. lol

You guys are almost making me glad no bow shooting for me until sometime next year hopefully.

Start PT from shoulder surgery tomorrow.

Don’t know your exact Situation but I tore my rotator cuff in August of 21’. Had a hunt scheduled for mid October of the same year that was supposed to be a bowhunt. Doctor gave me a heavy script of prednisone and I was able to complete the hunt, didn’t shoot before or after the hunt only during and only 2-3 arrows a day max. After the hunt my shoulder was toast and I was in constant pain.

I never thought about shooting my compound bow but during the layoff I got tired of not doing anything so I tried to shoot my recurve and found it caused me no pain whatsoever. Trying to draw my compound felt like someone was ripping my arm off but the recurve draw cycle didn’t hurt a bit.

May be able to practice with a Recurve or Longbow in the interim.

I hunted most of the season until Thanksgiving week with both of my shoulders torn up. Had surgery then so I could and so my school teacher wife could be home a few days with me. Right shoulder the labrum was ton off and rolled into the socket, bicept tendon torn completely off and AC joint a solid bone spur, and a couple of other minor fixes as well.
PT is hell but if you do it right your long term success is better.

Good lord man! What caused all that?

I’ve got bad shoulders from weight lifting but nothing has required surgery yet

Rotator cuff torn about 50% with lots of fraying where attached and Bicep tendon reattached. Plus bone spurs removed and some other cleanup in there.

I used to have a physically demanding ding job, participated in martial arts, softball and other activities until I was 50. I still work hard but I don't play quite as hard now. Let's just say I believe I can't take it with me so I'm trying to use it all up.😀

ouch,

I am left eye dominant and shoot right handed(60 years now) I bought a used left handed bow to see if I can shoot more naturally. . . I shot the dang thing and put a big azz bruise on my arm jeesh, that hurt. However, that year I did shoot a doe left handed and right handed in the same weekend. Still undecided on which way to shoot.

I still plant a nice bruise on my arm every now and then. Mostly when I get lazy or tired.
