"OFFICIAL"....2017-18 opening day/season success thread - 09/29/17 01:31 PM

Just thought I'd get one started!
Anyone who had 2017 success with earlier openings can chime in also.
Any animals taken with longbow, recurve, compound, or crossbow are eligible, just no pictures of targets.
If you can't post a picture, lets hear details about the hunt!
Lets try to keep it going!

That one is a wall mount. Great shot.

Shot a pig opening morning that has been running my deer out for two weeks so hopefully they will start coming back when I go back in a couple weeks.

In the photo section there is more to the story but I had him officially scored by SCI and he is no. 154 all time and No. 21 taken with a bow. Because they quite separating the 3 species in North America he competes against the much larger dybowski and manchurian ( in whitetail terms it's like a coues deer not having its own category). They also don't have a separate category for free range and estate/high fence

for a Japanese sika he may be the biggest free range ever taken in the state or the U.S with a bow. No way of knowing

He is a heck of an animal

Got a doe this morning.

Re: "OFFICIAL"....2017-18 opening day/season success thread - 10/04/17 02:08 PM

Opening day, saw two doe in the morning.

That evening, around 1800 three more doe came in, but scented me (though they never saw me).

Then, around 1830, while I'm staring at the back of my eyelids, one of my target bucks walks in and starts munching on acorns about 20 yards in front of me. He was head on, and didn't give me a shot for a few minutes. But the first moment he did, I smoked him.

Kinda feels weird killing a deer in September...

On another positive note, the processor said I'll have my meat back in less than 2 weeks. Looking forward to some easy hunting and hanging out at camp the rest of the season; I'll mostly hunt hogs the rest of the year, and let my wife take a cull and or a doe.

Also, this could go in the "myth busters" thread, but that deer was definitely looking up at me (several times) 18' up that old oak tree I was sitting in.
