Quartering away shot placement on WT

I have a bow hunt next weekend. I'm looking for 2 doe/spike. Going to be using Rage 40KE. Do i tuck into armpit, or pull shot further back? I just read in my Hunter Ed courser that aim for opposite leg. Correct, or nah?

You have to visualize where the arrow will travel. Imagine where the heart is and send the arrow through it. If you can wait for the perfect quartering away shot wait for the perfect broad side shot.

Aim for the exit hole but you won't get that with a rage. No matter the angle or elevation of the shot aim where you want the arrow to come out. My brother has a deep pit blind and you are actually shooting up at the deer but still aim for exit.

Yessir, the broadside shot is my go-to, but also want a "back up" if you will.

I shot rage the past two years and I'm officially switching to spitfires!
Lost an 8 pointer last week. Complete pass through, not much bleeding, wasn't a perfect shot not back too far but could have been 2" more forward. I was aiming for the opposite lung

Rage are fine, tones of deer killed with them. You put it in the right place you kill them with a field point.

Any way, on a quartering away shot aim at the OPOSITE shoulder. where ever that puts the shot so be it.

As a general rule aim a little more forward than back, very very few deer lost when hit hard in the shoulder, lots of gut shot deer never found.

I like the picture the vitals and put it through it. I aim heart so if they drop ur still good.

Broadside double lung is the perfect bow shot...quartering away you should you need to imagine a soccer ball inside the deer's chest cavity where the vitals are and "aim" so that you would exit on the far shoulder.

Get better and yes tons of deer are killed with rage I just like two holes in a deer I gotta blood trail is all.

This deer was shot 35+ yards out quartering perfectly away at 45 degrees, head to the right. I aimed 3 inches left of the center of his stomach for an exit right in front of the front shoulder (as suggested by the guys above). If you are going to err on one side, always err on the side closest to the vitals (so if I wanted to be a little safer I would have aimed maybe 6 inches to the right of where I aimed but I was feeling confident that day!).

One VERY IMPORTANT NOTE... Just because the arrow shows little sign of red blood doesnt mean it was a bad shot. My arrow had a small spec of blood on the white feather, but the rest was covered in a brownish gray liquid (bile I assume). Just in case the shot was too far back I gave it 4 hours before tracking. When I entered the area of the creek I saw him go after the shot I was pleasantly surpised to see a monster blood trail and him lying dead 20 yards in the creek bed. Any time you shoot the quartering shot you will most likely hit some type of intestine/stomach/etc. So keep that in mind and dont get your hopes down if you dont see a lot of blood at sight of impact or on arrow! The point of the new mechanicals and why I like using them for deer is the wound cavity from entrance until it stops... if it stops... they will be huge and will bleed good with a pass through or not. This is wasn't a pass through but was the thickest blood trail iv ever had a deer leave.

All my rage kills have two holes. The problem is people trying to shoot too big of a mechanical with a low KE/MOMEMTUM setup

I CAN shoot the "normal" or even extreme Rage heads out of my bow. I'm CHOOSING to use the 40KE because I received them as a gift and the person who gave them to me is very dear to me so I'm using them. Plus I don't wanna use the 85gr Thunderheads. May use Carbon Express 4 blades but most likely not. My dad shot an elk cow straight on and a WT yearling doe broadside. The doe was complete pass through and the cow's stomach lining is what blocked the arrow. Bear in mind that the arrow entered from the front of the neck/chest and 3/4 exited from close to the right hindquarter. So I think 2 holes are produced by Rage. Lol

Unless you're an experienced bowhunter there should be NO backups. If you can't get a shot at the green spot on a standing deer don't take it.
